Basically, a "redneck" is a "hick" or a "rube." Almost always male. Almost always of the "white" race. Usually lives south of the Mason-Dixon line--but not always.

In US English, a "hick town" is a place which is far away from the "riches" of a city. A "backwater." Away from the center of things.

It comes from the fact that when a person works hard, his/her neck tends to become red. Usually works in a laborious trade like roofing or carpentry.

It is a stereotype that "rednecks" are racists. Not all people who would be called a "redneck" are racist.

It's a slur because it implies that a person is unsophisticated and not too intelligent/educated. It implies that the person is "backward."

That might be the case. Or, he might be a Russian troll, who has spun a yarn--that has convinced a lot of people--about being a "guy from the United States."

He believes Russia is the "lesser of two (or more) evils." That's all.

I feel like he likes Trump too much, and too unconditionally.

That is the line that Russian trolls are paid to promote.

You really have no way of knowing for sure the truth about anyone on the internet. To me, he shows the characteristics of a typical Russian troll. A lot of his commentary is very trollish.

Anyway,

https://www.yahoo.com/news/jared-kushne ... 00653.html

Quote:
Jared Kushner 'admitted Donald Trump lies to his base because he thinks they're stupid'

Donald Trump lied to his Republican base and thought they were so stupid they would believe it, according to Jared Kushner....

...During Mr Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign and throughout his presidency, multiple theories emerged falsely claiming he was not a natural-born American US citizen and it was therefore unconstitutional for him to become US President. Mr Trump was among those who pushed the “birther” conspiracy theory and consistently questioned former President Obama’s birthplace of Hawaii.

The former New York Observer editor has now claimed that Mr Kushner, the former publisher of the paper, informed her that Mr Trump did not believe the “birther” lies he was peddling....

...“I told Jared that I was particularly appalled by his father-in-law’s birtherism stance, which I viewed as cynical and racist.

“He rolled his eyes and said ‘He doesn’t really believe it, Elizabeth. He just knows Republicans are stupid and they’ll buy it’”.

And, here is an explanation from Stephen Fry on why some people believe everything that Donald Trump says.

I've been seeing Jacoby on here for about 2 1/2 years or so. He's consistent in his views.

He's not on my side politically.

Neither was Thomas Jefferson on John Adams' side politically.

But they got along.

I don't mind conservatives. Trump is another matter.

That's always been my take on Trump's flirtation with Republican politics and birtherism. He hardly seems to realize how this game he plays with people could lead to calamity.

I find this new person who seems to joined with the sole intention of standing Jacob disconcerting.

Is this the way the left is going, some conspiracy theory that anyone who's pro trump is a long (5+ years) Russian plant.

That Russia would have been planning trumps election for years. Rather then just accept half the nation absolutely hated oabama term and the lefts liberal progressive ideas and so elected anyone who wasn't from the democrat party.

I'd elected a homeless stray cat over Clinton.
That said I support trump mostly as he's done stuff to helps me and as of yet nothing to hurt me. Much more then I can say for the democrat politicians constantly attacking me.

It is typical for Russian internet trolls to hurl homophobic slurs. Russia is a notoriously homophobic country. Jacoby offered no critique of Mr. Cooper other than Mr. Cooper's sexuality. If this behavior is acceptable on this board, then, go ahead, call me a "fag###" and ban me now.

This type of paranoia is not healthy, you seriously need help if you think the Russians are out to get you.

Alright, I'm sorry if I misrepresented "rednecks" a bit. Is "redneck" a slur? What do they prefer to be called?

Anyways, I know that there are a lot of poor whiter folks in America who have been brainwashed by bourgeoisie propaganda. They have lost their sense of class consciousness, so they focus on race instead. They seriously believe that white culture is under attack because they don't know what the demographic transition is. They also don't know why all of these Mexican/Muslim immigrants are coming in. HINT: Big business is responsible.

When I was young the term meant the working poor, usually someone wearing a uniform with their name on it.They might own a small business, like a garage or be a carpenter. They listened to Merle Haggard, probably wouldn't be invited to join the country club.At that time they were more likely to vote Democrat.

I really hope this thread doesn't get locked.
This thread isn't about Russian agents. I just want the white working class to abandon "racial awareness" in favor of class consciousness.

It's not just the white working class that has this problem.

You are correct. The entire working class has a class consciousness problem thanks to the "rags to riches" mythology.

You are right really. Have things really changed all that much over time?

In our country's history, the white working class supported the Nationalists (with whom the Labour party went into a pact / coalition in 1924) in order to preserve their jobs and privileges. In other words, race was a big deal. When they returned to power in 1948 job reservation was implemented. Eventually most of the working class supported the right wing parties which split off over the years. Now we have the problem of affirmative action which doesn't solve the problem it's meant to address, simply because the issue of race is emphasized.

We need to be truly colourblind - which some folk find very difficult.

I happen to like the "Horatio Alger" stories. Even though it's a sort of mythology, it does bring hope to those who are "downtrodden."
