The "ex-colonies" would have been a better word, indeed.

My point was, the Old World collapsed and rebuilt while the New World survived 20th century without such massive reorganisation.

US started in 18th century as a massive innovative experiment that turned out surprisingly successful - but since then, the rest of the world had no choice but to evolve and go a few more steps further forward.

When you consider the fact that the "New World" has only two major polities (Canada and USA), and that those two polities get along well as neighbors, it stands to reason that the only major reconstructions in the "New World" occurred toward the ends of the 18th and 19th centuries.

The New World is South and Central America as well.

I doubt that Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, etc. would like it if the United States and Canada were referred to as the "only two main polities" in the "New World."

And they have quite a lot of other issues to adress, as large parts of Latin America are not particularily politically stable...
Let's face it, organising a state was never an easy job. A lot of trial and error has to have been done.

Who really cares whether or not "Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, etc" likes being rated inferior to the US and Canada?

Yes, I am being a jerk about this, but unless all of our neighbors to the south get their acts together, they will forever be considered economically, politically, and socially backward and unstable.

The US, etc. better watch out for Brazil.

If they get their act together, they can really emerge as a very strong nation.

They have excellent natural resources, varied climate (but never extremely cold, and not too many tornadoes or hurricanes), and an interesting population.

There always has to be an option for an "if"-----otherwise, everything is futile.

And....."if" we still had Trump as President, it's quite possible we could have ended up like those South American nations.

When it comes to our southern neighbors progressing beyond their current economic, political, and social status, "futility" may very well be the only operative word.

Right, Dr. Suess wasn't cancelled, 6 of his books were and that was just the publishing company deciding to stop publishing 6 of his books. But I guess cancelling few of his books was the same as cancelling him. :shrugs:

And then people who rejected it acted like all their Dr. Suess books would be snagged from their home. This isn't Fahrenheit 451.

Sound a bit like Eurocentrism, and I wonder what is the "woke" position on this.

well, there is no reason to ban X if X is never produced, does it? It's not necessary unless it is.

Does this mean these books are public domain?
