You don't necessarily have to be a martyr for a god. Martin Luther King was a martyr for equal rights. Galileo was arguably a martyr for science.

now you're just baiting. courage? depth of character? dying takes none of these and there is nothing glorious about dying...ever.

Oh, I disagree. Spoken like a true atheist, ska.

I think thread like this attention seeking and manipulative. I noticed you mellowed out for a while, but now you are back with this kind of nonsense. The Obama thread was particularly poor. I encourage anyone to read it, and form their own opinion. Somehow I don't think anyone is going to recruit you for their dirty tricks dept. anytime soon.

You don't hold the moral high ground, there isn't one. You will have your contradictory natures. It particularly prone in human nature to overlook things that are clearly at odds with your views.

There were many gospels including a gospels of Mary (Magdalene) and Judus. They can vastly vary in their accounts. There is no know gospel that was written in the time of Jesus.

Time to end (or at least suspend) the flamewar and possibly start a new one...

Instead of performing witch-burning, we should perform bitch-burning. That's "b***h" as Maddox defines it in one of his articles:

Quote:
A miserable person who sucks all joy and happiness out of life, and makes life a little less worth living by her consistently sh***y attitude. When not complaining, her drama and gossip will fill the void. He or she (but usually she) refuses to do something with a group, and will forego hanging out with said group unless they're doing something she wants to do. She will put her interest ahead of others every single time, just for the sake of being a b***h. A b***h hates fun.

Think about it before you call me a misogynist... the women that are left would be intelligent enough to choose to mate with non-jerks, leaving the male jerk population to die out. We wouldn't have annoying chick flicks on all the time, people would judge based on more than just the clothes you wear, and 99% of the world would be capable of making decisions based on some amount of rational thought. (That's not to say that emotion would be eliminated from the decision-making process entirely, but at least it wouldn't dominate it)...

Then the world would be a better place...

I probably don't. It's easy to die, though. It's harder to go on living.

There might be a rare few instances where I would lay down my life, but I raise a glass to you, Quatermass. Well said.

Burning Rags is much more fun. Throw a few Xians on for kindling. Oily Rags tend to burn quicker, and there's one around that I can see that would go up in a nano-second......

you do realize that your statement only empowers them and vindicates them, right?

Karma. After what they did to us during the Inquisition. Only thing is, you'd want to spray some Glen 20 to get rid of the smell.

If you want to talk about stealing, Christianity stole Yule and Ostara from us and called them Christmas and Easter. They stole the idea of Jesus being the son of God and the resurrection from at least 16 other instances (including Buddha and Crishna), they stole and destroyed our temples and worshipped their false god on those sites, and also stole their calandar and ages directly from the Mesopotamian and Greek astrological systems. Pagans were around a long time before Xians, it's just that the flavour of the month happened to get adopted by the Romans and spread from there.
