The worst thing about religion
Hahaha! You criticize Christianity while not knowing anything about it, you support modern science without understanding it, and now you're insulting my English while grammatically raping your own language. It's "Stupid little American," you capitalize the first letter of a sentence and the first letter of a name.
How would you know? You've shown that you know neither English nor mathematics.
Considering that Americans predominantly speak it, it's my language too. So please don't butcher your queen's royal English.
I speak a particular dialect of the English language appropriate for my country. Let's just say that if I went around saying "bloody twats" I would probably get my ass kicked.
wow, your a bit slow. Maybe you should actually think before you post, i'm probably guity of that too. I didn't capatalize it cause i'm talking down to you, if I was metioning GREAT BRITAIN then I would use capitals.
Like I said I know the language, i've just fallen into English slang. But I still remember the basics, its "maths" not "math"
shut the hell up, bollocks to the queen. Its our language, you should be humble.
Well, I think you should go round saying it. You deserve a kick-in.
Psychiatry is governed by science. Schizophrenia is governed by psychiatry.
To refresh our memories (via wikipedia edited for space):
To be diagnosed with schizophrenia, a person must display:
Two or more of the following, each present for much of the time during a one-month period (or less, if symptoms remitted with treatment)
delusions
hallucinations
disorganized speech (e.g., frequent derailment or incoherence; speaking in abstracts). See thought disorder.
grossly disorganized behavior (e.g. dressing inappropriately, crying frequently) or catatonic behavior
negative symptoms, i.e., affective flattening (lack or decline in emotional response), alogia (lack or decline in speech), or avolition (lack or decline in motivation).
Note: If delusions are judged to be bizarre, or hallucinations consist of hearing one voice participating in a running commentary of the patient's actions or of hearing two or more voices conversing with each other, only that symptom is required above. The speech disorganization criterion is only met if it is severe enough to substantially impair communication.
Social/occupational dysfunction: For a significant portion of the time since the onset of the disturbance, one or more major areas of functioning such as work, interpersonal relations, or self-care, are markedly below the level achieved prior to the onset.
Duration: Continuous signs of the disturbance persist for at least six months. This six-month period must include at least one month of symptoms (or less, if symptoms remitted with treatment).
I look see most religious people as somewhere on the 'schizophrenic spectrum'. The symptoms fit. If they're having hallucinations something is off. George Bush and his excuse for the mess in Iraq can be our case study. http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2005/10_october/06/bush.shtml If he hears a voice and refers to it as God he's sane, healthy, ready to rid the world of terrorists. If he hears a voice and refers to it as Bumblebee he needs a bit more Thorazine. (OR! In the event he's not the President of the US and hears a voice called telling him to kill people, he needs more Thorazine.)
So, in my world, those of the religious variety get the psychiatric label, which lets me deconstruct their "faith" with my science because their faith isn't actually real, it's all hallucinations and delusions.
Worst thing about religion--Either we're misdiagnosing a lot of sane people as crazy or misdiagnosing a lot of crazy people as sane.
(Let Benjamin be
yes, I agree. These idiots are trying to insult me, cause I am insulting a fairytale. Don't worry, you won't get through to them. Not sure if its an aspie thing, or they are just one of the 75% idiotic americans. You are one of 25% dahling
Guys, guys, the war of independence is over, okay? Everybody knows the British lost.
Well, technically speaking, they didn't lose so much as decide not to fight anymore... the war lost popularity with the British rulers, who had other colonies to "protect" (enforce).
But, on my grandfathers side, I had ancestors in America fight the english, so I still like to say they lost.
But, really, this thread is kind of supposed to be about religion... which is bollocks, I might add.

damn, and when I saw your username, I thought you might be on my side
lol, should you as an Australian even be commenting on history? You're just a country made up of our criminals.
It really doesn't matter how benjaminbregg says it or what mistakes he makes, his main point is valid.
Why have religion? You can't prove it exists? What benefits does it have?
Attack the argument, not the person.
This thread has failed absolutely in the above and a few of you should be thoroughly ashamed.
He responded poorly to obvious provocation and insults. That is to be expected.

thanks. I'm just not great at getting my point across.
Exactly, and I believe that some day religion will be proved wrong, I hope it is, for the good of the world. Before anyone starts going on about faith again, just stop it, if you want to have your fake religion go ahead, but prepare to be slated for it. But I do understand their situation, I believed in Santa untill I was like 10
And I was attacking the religion, untill I started getting attacked. I must have hit a nerve.
What you were attacked for was that your arguments made no sense- multiple atheists and agnostics have agreed on that, so it's not just Christians offended at their religion being insulted. You were the one who commenced actual personal attacks.

haha, religion makes no sense. So should you be attacked for believing in a fairytale? And your wrong again, don't make me dig it up, just go back to page 3 and 4, then you'll see your the one who actually started getting personal.
lol, I like this video, its very simple, but got to the point way more than all the other crap. I could listen to this guy all day. And yes I know I can't prove god doesn't exist, and like you'll hear on the video, you can not prove that there is only one god. You can't prove there isn't a santa. Its all one big fairytale, and if you attack me personally for questioning this ridiculous story, regardless of the manner i'm arguing (you know full well what i'm trying to say). Your just trying to talk down to me, and I liked the way you thought you were demeaning me by correcting the way I spelt fagsite or whatever his name is, your slow and stupid for not realising I did that intentionally. Anyway, enjoy the video.

Any answer to these questions?

don't get him started again, you'll never get a straight answer from him, he'll just mumble.
Well, the issue is that the mistakes undermine the point. If he makes all sorts of mistakes, then we cannot take his point that seriously for he has failed to develop it fully.
The reason to have religion is because we choose to have religion. A number of theists claim that there are proofs, such as the standard proofs such as the cosmological argument, archaeological proofs from the time of Christ pointing to his existence, and lastly the presuppositional argument that the existence of God is a necessary fact to fit in our understanding of the universe. Finally, the benefits of religion are clear, a community, some source of internal comfort, and if the claims are correct then the favor of God and a good afterlife.
The latter is fun.
Meh, why feel shame?
So did we, that is to be expected. I mean, it is quite arguable that there is a feedback loop between the groups.
Well, I never make mistakes because I am perfect. Why do you think I picked my screen name?
from awseomelyglorious's blog
I have a low emotional IQ and tend to be clumsy so that sounds Aspie-ish. My dream in life is to be powerful, I suppose this is because I have continually believed myself to be weak so therefore in order to compensate for these flaws I feel that I must prove myself to be strong and powerful. I am weird and I know that very well.
wow, sounds like your not perfect after all, thats hillarious ![]()

Any positive belief should have some sort of rationale. The burden is on the religious to prove that their particular beliefs are correct. The burden is not on atheists to prove that these beliefs are incorrect.
Does religion really have communal benefits? It does if you belong to that particular group. Otherwise it is a source of considerable division.
The idea that we should follow a religion to "please" god is frankly absurd. God hasn't seemed to mind when people murder in his name all over the world.
