I think, when dealing with the uninitiated, it would be better to ask for more than a single qualified individual. There are oftentimes wack-jobs (I'm sure there's just *someone* out there with credentials who still entertains the belief that Goedel's Incompleteness Theorems refute the possibility of Strong-AI)

I'm not sure I believe in strong AI either, and expert opinion is widely divided on this matter.

But that's not the point. Weak AI can still do awesome and horrible things.

Wait...we're seriously debating the potential of Weak AI to do "awesome and horrible things"?

Pretty fun to watch, 'eh?

It reminds me of some clashes I've had in the past and makes me want to cover my eyes actually haha.

Why don't you take your campaign back to your original thread because it really doesn't belong here. You obviously have a God-Complex and evidently a few followers as well.

No, I have a 'want to create God complex'

Frankly, I'd like to die in a fire some day too. Like other humans, I am ultimately too feeble to deserve the Earth.

Tad bit presumptuous...

Just because I can spot an intelligent youth hardly makes me a follower. This guy is new here and it is obvious he fits in with a certain type on this site. There are quite a few of them here. I can only dream of being half as sharp. I cannot help but have a bit of respect for the young and incredible clever.

I'm hardly clever at all

This is clever ... someone who frightened George Pólya in a lecture

I just tried really hard

Please forgive this statement, but you seem to have an amazingly perceptive grasp of the obvious. Entropy rules.

Are you using the pop culture definition of 'entropy'?

The Earth is not a closed system (due to that yellow thing in the sky) and we have every opportunity not to suck, but we squander them pretty consistently.

No, if I understand it correctly, entropy in thermodynamics means that all energy will eventually equalize in to an evenly-distributed level of heat throughout the cosmos. In a more general sense, it means that everything will eventually run down, decay, or simply vaporise and become useless. In a greater philosophical sense, it means that even social structures will eventually fall apart.

So far, I agree in principle with most of what you've posted in this thread.

Impressive.

The amount of usable energy in a closed system inevitably decreases over time (i.e., entropy increases).

However, the Earth is not a closed system and, as such, entropy won't be a good excuse for fucking up our own lot for many millions of years to come.

You are jealous. I don't take the side of jealous attackers. If you feel so bent out of shape over someone, don't talk to them okay?

Same here. Don't we get enough bashing in the world from those who think some people are out to belittle and make them feel stupid when it's far from the truth in alot of cases?

You hardly give yourself enough credit...which is most likely true of many kids here. I get pretty excited watching all the young people here get all reved up about math, science, physics, engineering, architecture, literature, psychology, music, art...you name it. I love all these things but never had a notable talent for any particular one. I look at lots of kids here and say to myself...yeah, they're gonna' do something big.

I am jealous of those who have a God complex, because I would like to have a God complex, instead, I have Inferiority Complex.

aww.

I don't want one extreme. If you have God complex, the harder you fall when your complex eventually dies.

I have no idea whether she's jealous or not

That's not the issue, and I don't care

I care about people being wrong

I'll never be as great as John von Neumann, Donald Knuth, etc.
