The Truth AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH: 2016 Election
He didn't say anything in his press conference about it even tho Trump did and they were standing like 5 feet apart, seems like Nieto(who is very unpopular in Mexico) is saving face now that he's getting flack from Mexican and American journalists. Mexico can pay in a number of ways, that's the easy part, their cooperation is what is is needed and Nieto seemed very reasonable.
They aren't going to pay for a ridiculous wall that will never be built.
Place a tariff on them, a tax on remission payments(this actually helps Mexico as the flow of money into the country is destabilizing them economically), a reduction in foreign aid. It's really easy and I think there are some things we could do with the Mexican government to make things better for them, we can work together against these cartels and and to control not only our southern border but theirs as well. Illegal immigration isn't good for Mexico either, many of the newer migrants are from Central and South America as well as others from all over the world including the middle east, it disturbs the labor market and hurts their economy.

There's a fatal flaw in your argument. A wall will do nothing. Still not frothing...
A wall would do plenty, it would all but stop illegal crossings which is how the cartels and criminals get in this country with their drugs and human trafficking. The Cartels literally walk over the border and thru the mountains in heavily armed platoons with advanced scouts with sophisticated technology, you do not want to be the unfortunate person to cross paths with these criminals out in the desert since it might be the last thing you ever do. Mexico takes care of its much smaller southern border and we're doing pretty well. They spent almost a trillion dollars on Obama's stimulus package, they spent even more on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, they spent how much on developing the F-35? A wall quite frankly is a small potatoes in the grand scheme of things and serves more of a purpose than any of those huge boondoggles as real tangible thing that serves the American people instead of the special interests.

Trump back in the lead in the latest Rasmussen poll
Hillary having a very bad week!
If Trump wins more Democrats than Hillary wins Republicans and also wins independents then he wins the election, simple as that.
More revelations to come yet and the debates, Hillary doesn't have to stamina or fortitude to have a real campaign. She does not talk to the press, she barely has campaign events, often when she goes somewhere it is to half empty rooms.
Every day there is something new, drip drip drip. Trump just has too keep it under control and not give the media ammunition, been doing much better lately.
“The American liberal press, in falling over themselves to defend Hillary Clinton, are erecting a demon that is going to put nooses around everyone’s necks as soon as she wins the election, which is almost certainly what she’s going to do,” Assange told New York Times reporter Jo Becker during a live interview.
Wikileaks, which Assange co-founded in 2006, recently released nearly 20,000 emails hacked from the Democratic National Committee. Assange has said that the group will be releasing Clinton documents before the Nov. 8 election.
Assange declined to provide additional details about the documents procured from Clinton or from the Clinton Foundation. In an interview last week he called the Clinton documents “interesting” and “entertaining.”

Walls don't stop drugs. You can control demand by ending the drug war overnight. As long as there is demand, there will be supply. But what you will do, theoretically, is create another intrusive big government institution that will seize private property all along the border, some of it from Native American tribes who will object most forcefully. You will also create a barrier to species flow, isolating populations of animals that don't fly, leading to speciation or extinction, probably violating the endangered species act. Stimulus at least helps the economy. Building dams at least generates electricity. This will generate no revenue when complete, just like a war.

I like that last line. Conservatives like war. They also tend to be authoritarian and like a leader who is perceived as tough...

Drug reform is something that should happen in conjuncture with the wall, mass incarceration is an issue that can work on in a bipartisan fashion. As for the border reservations like the Tohono O'odham, it's not practical on any level that they be able to go back forth on burro or whatever like they want and they claim like a quarter of Arizona and more in Sonora. The land in Mexico along the Sea of Cortez is probably nicer but their lands here(which are huge, bigger than Rhode Island and Delaware with minuscule population) are probably the most desolate part of the state. Crime on the reservation is a big problem and these cartels use tribal lands and tribal members as a means of avoiding detection.
President Pena Nieto supports stopping illegal immigration and cross border smuggling(drugs/human trafficking into the US, guns into Mexico), they want to secure their southern border with Central America where the majority of illegal immigrants are coming from now. Guaranteeing better worker's rights for Mexicans will give them a higher quality of life while allowing American workers to be more competitive, Trump also stressed the importance of keeping jobs and manufacturing in this hemisphere.
A wall is not only just a physical barrier but a psychological one as well, I doubt nearly as many people attempt to illegally immigrate when they know it is not tolerated. The US as a sovereign country needs to control it's borders.
The stimulus didn't do that much for the economy, paid off a lot of Obama's friends and was tremendously wasteful. I'm pretty sure way more than $12 billion of the whatever $800 billion in that stimulus package was wasted. It's not that much money and it doesn't need to paid all up front, it can be staggered. Cost really isn't that big of an issue in my opinion, once it is built it is built. Americans have been promised a wall for 30 years now and it's time to deliver, it. If that's the worst thing Trump does as president then he'll be the greatest president in American history.
A wall would generate money, I know for a fact it would pump billions and probably thousands of jobs into my state. It's something tangible, it's not like a war at all where we're only left with dead soldiers, weakened security, trillions in new debt, and untold numbers of civilian causalities.

Not to mention that more Mexicans are leaving then entering. It would also do nothing to prevent people on visas from overstaying. And that is a huge driver of illegal immigration.

On a side note, I find it both funny and entirely unsurprising that The Mexican President said Trump lied about their meeting. That he told Trump that Mexico wouldn't pay for the wall. Considering everything else Trump has lied about I'm inclined to believe Nieto.
Why don't we just take the simple step and start punishing people who hire undocumented immigrants, like Trump does?

My personal feeling is that it's imperialistic....and ABSURD.....
to expect Mexico to pay for a wall which the United States wants.
It's almost like the Nazis expecting POLAND to pay for the (Nazis) invasion of it.
If this were to occur, Mexico would, definitely, be a vassal-state of the United States. Do you think Mexico wants that sort of reputation?

On top of that it's our drug policy that is driving much of the violence on the Mexican border. So it's also asking Mexico to pay for a (ineffective) band aid that has as it's only goal to go after a symptom of a problem rather than the root cause.
I just think the whole ideas is ridiculous.
In practical terms, the "wall" would be costly in the extreme.
Don't you think these "illegals" would come up with ways to scale that wall?--including bribing the Border Patrol folks?
Folks who see economic opportunity are MIGHTY resourceful.

Who would have thought that the party of the guy who famously said "tear down this wall" is now behind someone who made building a border wall a central pillar in his racist bigoted campaign?
I just don't see the sense in the US becoming an isolationist country.
Of course, we have to be quite vigilant in our national security, and to make sure we are heard in organizations like NATO and the United Nations.
But we have to be a partner in the world, not somebody who is the eccentric, weird, rich uncle.
