no it is not. it is a form of socialism. again, communist countries force atheism, not because they don't believe in god, but because religion interferes with the government.

Stop trying to pull a Bill Clinton of it depends on what your definition of 'is' is.

I pointed this out earlier in another thread and I'm annoyed at having to repeat myself.

Stop pulling a Bill Clinton of: It depends on what your definition of 'is' is.

Marxism is a form of Atheism by definition.

Marxism is a political philosophy, as well as an economic and sociological worldview, which is based upon a materialist interpretation of history, a Marxist analysis and critique of capitalism, a theory of social change, and a view of human liberation derived from the work of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. The three primary aspects of Marxism are:

1. The dialectical and materialist concept of history — Humankind's history fundamentally is a struggle between social classes. The productive capacity of society is the foundation of society, and as this capacity increases over time the social relations of production, class relations, evolve through this struggle of the classes and pass through definite stages (primitive communism, slavery, feudalism, capitalism). The legal, political, ideological and other aspects (e.g. art) of society are derived from these production relations as is the consciousness of the individuals of which the society is composed.
2. The critique of capitalism — Marx argues that in capitalist society, an economic minority (the bourgeoisie) dominate and exploit an economic majority (the proletariat). Marx argues that capitalism is exploitative, specifically the way in which unpaid labour (surplus value) is extracted from the working class (the labour theory of value), extending and critiquing the work of earlier political economists on value. Such commodification of human labour according to Marx, creates an arrangement of transitory serfdom. He argued that while the production process is socialized, ownership remains in the hands of the bourgeoisie. This forms the fundamental contradiction of capitalist society. Without the elimination of the fetter of the private ownership of the means of production, human society is unable to achieve further development.
3. Advocacy of proletarian revolution — In order to overcome the fetters of private property the working class must seize political power internationally through a social revolution and expropriate the capitalist classes around the world and place the productive capacities of society into collective ownership. Upon this, material foundation classes would be abolished and the material basis for all forms of inequality between humankind would dissolve.

where does it mention atheism?

Atheism is the belief there is no god. Marxism also believes there is no god and that religion actually gets in the way of things.

So Marxism is a subset of Atheism.

you're an idiot. Marxism doesn't like religion because religion DOES get in the way of things. it has NOTHING to do with god

Actually, there have been efforts to combine Marxism with Christianity.

I'm quite sure there is, the idea is to wrap themselves up in a religion (that they don't believe in) to potentially sway the masses. It usually doesn't work when the masses happen to be on to them and the religious groups don't cooperate either. Nancy Pelosi and Obama tried to use religion to squash protests of Obamacare and it didn't work.

bahahahaha. how can i stay "on topic?" is the only way to do so to agree that "atheism (is) a threat to freedom?" atheism is compatible with marxism. have you never seen christianity, islam, or any other religion being treated as "compatible" with a political/economic system you find distasteful?

bashing christianity is entirely on topic unless your premise is that all religions are equal. i doubt that you feel this way. your topic is "Is Atheism a threat to Freedom." you suggest that it is on the grounds that, lacking a belief in god, atheists are free from any moral standard. i contend that belief in god does not prevent immorality, therefore the lack of such belief does not promote immorality.

stop being silly.

No it is not. Marxism is a political and philosophical ideology. Atheism is just the absence of belief in gods. It doesn't come in different forms, and it doesn't have subsets or imply ideologies. To say that marxism is a form of atheism is like saying that there's a direct link (and not just a thing in common) between veganism and lactose intolerance. There is not. They are answers to completely different sets of questions.

You're missing the point. There have been efforts made by Christians to christianize marxist political philosophy. The religious issue is a minor aspect of marxist philosophy. Atheism is not the core of marxism.

Oh but it does, Marxism stems from Atheism. Karl Marx's little creation was founded on the premise of Atheism.
