If the poorest is worth the same as the richest, then by what standard do you judge value?
Should someone contribute more simply because they've earned more? What grants you the right to decide what should be done with those earnings?
It's common sense that those who have been blessed with more should contribute more. It makes a lot more sense than saying that those who have little or nothing should shoulder the burden - which is something which is becoming popular among conservatives these days.
By the way, the god of modern American conservatism, Ronald Reagan, had thought the same way that we liberals do concerning the rich paying the bulk of taxation.

Oh, absolutely he brought that damnable idiocy down on us all. I'm just pointing out to JWC, whose political views seem from my perspective to be rather jumbled, that Reagan hardly would have stood with the tax cuts for the rich crowd of today.

Reagan would tax the hell out of the Rich to try to pump some blood back into the economy he was never in favor of tax cuts for the rich I have the Ronald Reagan diaries book he says so himself in the book
While such a regulation may seem foolish on the face of it, you have to ask if there's a specific reason for it.
-Bill, otherwise known as Kraichgauer
Actually the regulation probably exists to protect large brokerage firms from small ones becoming serious competitors.
What evidence do you have to support that?
-Bill, otherwise known as Kraichgauer
A CEO recently told Congress about how he was fined for hiring too many people: “I incurred more than $500,000 in legal bills to mitigate a more severe regulatory outcome as a result of hiring too many workers. I have also been prohibited from opening up additional offices. I had a major expansion plan that would have resulted in my creating hundreds of additional jobs. Regulations have forced me to put those jobs on hold.” The testimony from the CEO of Euro Pacific Capital illustrates that “job-killing” regulations are a reality, not just a conservative talking point.

Most of the regulations that conservatives and their corporate masters are bitching about are environmental protection, food protection, and even airline protection. Now, as far as that last one is concerned, I've never flown before, but if I ever do, I'd like my first flight to not be my last!
-Bill, otherwise known as Kraichgauer
How is that related to the CEO in the article I sourced?
I was actually pointing out that the CEO in your source doesn't represent most big business and their political shills, whose complaints about regulations really is a matter of bashing the EPA, FDA, and OSHA.
-Bill, otherwise known as Kraichgauer
Oh there is plenty of stuff to call for the EPA actually being shut down and started over.

Uh... taxes.
The right thinks the rich shouldn't be taxed because they're the job creators, while they believe that the poor should be punished for "leaching" off the country.

Well, guess what - that makes you an oddity among most conservatives, who would rather abolish the EPA, and just let it stay dead.
I would think you would agree that not only having clean air and water is advantageous, but so is allowing America's wilderness to go unspoiled so our children can enjoy it.

I've never heard anyone (on the left or the right) calling for the punishment of the poor. What method of punishment have you heard people calling for?

Oh you mean people like Herman Cain?
Well if you had watched the debates, you would know that Herman Cain called for the EPA to be shut down and started over, not simply do away with the EPA and clean air, water, etc.
That's one advantage of having watched the debates, I actually know what the Candidates did say, and not simply rely on some talking head to tell me what the candidates said.

I've never heard anyone (on the left or the right) calling for the punishment of the poor. What method of punishment have you heard people calling for?
Again, taxation. It's in fact been discussed on Fox, as well as by Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann. Taxing people who have is one thing, but to tax people who are without, now that is definitely punishment.

So, according to you, taxing the rich is just, but taxing the poor is punishment?

That's not what they are saying, again if you are going to make claims, I strongly suggest you actually watch the debates from start to finish, rather than relying on a talking head's commentary.

Then Herman Caine's an oddball, too. Notice that Limbaugh and company have taken him to task for criticizing Rick Perry for the name of his ranch (it was called n****r Head!), so I can only imagine that he doesn't always tow the party line.
