"Conspiracy theories,"
Which ones specifically are you referring to? I have just given a list of conspiracy 'theories' that are very much proven, at least I would say proven, such as MKULTRA, which we know about since the CIA were obliged to release information about it under the freedom of information act. So, which ones are you talking about?
I was responding to the poster above me. And I don't call those ones you mention conspiracy theories. Reason being is so there isn't the mistake of lumping them all into the same category. The newer definition of conspiracy theory is more suitable nowadays than the original one.
So in your opinion the idea of people trying to do anything even remotely conspiratorial is absurd and people almost never conspire to get what they want?
I haven't read all of this, but I think this might be where the "fluoride being harmful" is coming from (and there are many other sources too) I believe a lot of it deals with children up to the age of 6 getting too much fluroide according to these sources:

Strawman and you know it. Conspiracies happen, but if a conspiracy hasn't been discovered yet, and you predict a conspiracy without solid basis, that's what's absurd.

This issue with conspiracy theorists is that they usually don't believe just one unsubstantiated conspiracy but many. And it's not a casual belief but a fervent belief. They usually arent saying, "this might be possible" but "this is so, and here is my slanted view of subset of facts that prove it". Then like creationists or any other odd belief system they try to make themselves seem mainstream and reasonable by engaging in world salad.

I had a customer tell me today that Monsanto had been found guilty and fined over the use of Chemtrails. I incredulously asked asked her where she got that information and she told me that it was in a movie she saw on the weekend and I should look it up because it was true.
FFS how do people this stupid get so rich.

5 million people in the Uk currently have excess amounts of fluoride added to their water supply and the affects on teeth, bones and so forth i would say are fairly established within the scientific community.
Big thumbs down to you for this stupid post.
What a fantastic argument. Do you think you could give a logical reason as to why you think it is a stupid post as opposed to just labeling it as so, which achieves nothing but to lower my-self esteem and hinder a rational debate. The same is with the other post. 'You're just another typical conspiracy theorist!' How? Please state your reasons. The reason at to why I think fluoride in water should be a matter of individual choice is due to the reading I have do surrounding it and the evidence at my disposal. To source-

There are also many books such as the Case Against Fluoride and the Fluoride Deception that discuss the wide range of negative side-effects. Of course you could find opposing information to that by the institutions that wish to fluoridate water supplies but I think the main issue regardless of whether the evidence provided is scientifically valid or not is that it should be a personal choice at to whether you wish to have you water medicated in such a way.

I thought this would be a debate of ideas rather than the mocking of people who oppose them.

I admit that is ridiculous but then I also think it is ridiculous and reductionist to claim that all conspiracy theorist are similar to her on the basis of one of them. Also, what implies that she was rich?

So, what is you view on Monsanto then? Do you believe that they are a harmless corporation?

I personally wasn't there and thus I do not know what she was referring to when she said that and therefore do not know the validity of the claim, although what she may have been referring to is the fact that Monsanto were part of governmental warfare program called agent orange in which utilized various toxic herbicides as a way of attacking their communist enemies. The herbicidal warefare program about killed or maimed around 400,000 people. This of course does not imply that they are doing such things today, however it is nevertheless interesting-

Mate, I'm not mocking. I'm showing frustration. My brother is a conspiracy theorist as well, and he sometimes pisses me off with some of the views he holds and tries to shove down my throat as the truth. I was one myself ... for al ittle while at least. It can get really annoying.
As for the fluoride, I study an elective course that has water fluoridation and toxicity as a couple of its focuses. It's wrong what you're saying about this matter, and links to anti-fluoride sites are not evidence no matter how "scientific" they seem to be.
Also, I mentioned toxicity because too much of anything can be toxic, not just fluoride.
Conspiracy theory is not a term I like very much, it seems to be mostly a derogatory term. Do government's have secrets, yes, but most western governments are too incompetent to keep really big ones. I have developed a positive view of healthy skepticism, when you go through Tiananmen Square you see no mention of the protests, that is a real secret a government is making an attempt to hide. The same is true of smaller facts, like when you visit the Summer Palace and the destruction of the place is mentioned, simply as an isolated fact. There is no discussion of why the palace was burned, or engagement with the reality of what happened, its just a totally one sided view.
Having spent some time on academic exchange to China and more recently to North Korea, you realise that there are countries where the conspiracy theorists are right. When you are in Panmunjom they tell you that the South started the war and that the North won. Every day that government lies to you when you are there, down to the mundane. One of my minders told me that Koreans all have perfect vision, hence no glasses. He even tried to tell me that the fiat parked at the University was manufactured in Kaesong. So if you live there, you must be a sort of 'conspiracy theorist' and believe that the government is involved in a complex set of lies to keep you in line. But the idea that we are hiding aliens and that the moon landings were all faked, is just a bit too much really. A healthy scepticism is important but hey, everything in moderation.
