They seem desperate to stop us having human rights, don't they. I can't understand it, aren't they human too? Maybe they aren't, that would explain it.

Braverman is currently running at 36/1 which puts her in 10th position with the bookies.

She's behind Dominic Raab who is 33/1.

It speaks volumes when you think Raab is the more favourable politician out of these two.

I think it's only polite to refer to Conservative politicians by the pronoun they obviously prefer, "it."

Everyone in the UK will have human rights even if we're taken EU convention of human rights. The EU isn't the only convention. The US isn't in the EU convention or Australia, New Zealand and Canada and it's safe to say people in those countries have human rights.

Another British convention will follow and to put things in perspective, the first British bill of human rights was written almost 1000 years ago. The UK has always been right at the top with their human rights. The only thing that spoiled it was ignorance of the law for a great chunk of that 1000 years. Even laws stopping creditors from seizing a debtors property without the courts approval is almost 1000 years old.

Well it maybe a good thing or it maybe a bad thing. I can't find anything much that is in support of coming out of the European human rights commission but there is a lot of bias out there so I'm afraid I'll have to reserve judgement on it.

ECHR is nothing at all to do with the EU

It's a sign of how debased the party has become that none of the candidates are prepared to say that they'd stop deporting refugees to Rwanda, a policy which has been established as a breach of multiple international laws as well as common decency.

I found this about the EU trying to join the ECHR, so it's safe to say that the EU and ECHR aren't the same thing.

https://www.coe.int/en/web/human-rights ... man-rights

What bothers me is if the British government writes its own Human Rights charter, it can put anything it likes in it, and no other country will be able to say 'er...that's a bit extreme, maybe you should tone it down a bit.' Such as 'women do not have bodily autonomy when it comes to pregnancy and abortion.' It's already happening in the US, and already being talked about in the UK by people like Danny Kruger and Nadine Dorries.

I read that the 1922 committee wants each candidate to have 20 or 36 supporters or they won't be eligible. At the moment that is just Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordaunt. I hope it stays as just them because that would make the contest over with quicker!

I think it's mostly bluster and strutting, intended to please Daily Mail readers and the like. The types who are likely to whine about "those judges poking their noses into our legal system" or moaning about "those bleedin' ooman rights".
Others in the HoC and ultimately in the form of the HoL sending things back to be reconsidered, will maintain sanity.

For those complaining about it to me I ask which Human Right they'd like to see abolished most: the right to a fair trial? Or maybe freedom of religion or conscience? Perhaps freedom from torture, inhuman or degrading treatment and slavery might be a better fit?
"Ah, umm, well ..." is a typical response - they don't actually know what any of it says.

Javids delivering his pledges now.

I also saw Mordaunts video as well. The one she had to change. She's still second favourite at 4/1.

Braverman is creeping up in 7th place now behind Badenoch and in front of Javid.

Pritti Patel is supposed to be putting her hat in the ring at some point as well. That's if she's not already.

I hope you are right about the sensible people saving us.

What a good idea! I'll do that with people who complain about human rights :D

I read that Jacob Rees-Mogg is thinking of joining the contest. If he wins we'll be going back to 1822 :?

Ha Rees Mogg. He's just so out of touch with the real world. If he did become a candidate I can't see him winning. But you never know.

He's 13th favourite atm. Running at 100/1.

Yes, surely people aren't so naïve as to think Mogg would make a good modern leader who could turn us into this mystical 'global Britain' that they keep talking about. He's a caricature.

It's funny how The Beano managed to caricature him as "Lord Snooty" as far back as 1938 - some thirty years before he was born, let alone appeared in Parliament.

Here he is aged thirteen - what a little trend-setter:
