What is it that makes sex and lust so sinful to Christians?

I used to a Christian and was always scared to have sex because I thought I was gonna be committing some huge sin if I was to 'do it'. I've had sex many times though since being converted to an Agnostic. I could never understand the whole concept of sex being a sin though. I personally feel that it shouldn't be considered as a sin because that would mean that everyone in the world who's ever had children is a sinner, just because they decided to have kids.

I'm sure it has already been answered:

Sex is not a sin.

Lust is a sin.

Desire is wrong.

Why is it sinful/wrong? Because lust and desires lead to a person's eventual downfall.

Personally, I would much prefer my religious leader to be celibate/continent than to be married with children.

Why is Lust considered a sin slowmutant?
I mean, God made sex so why is it sinful to desires something thats a gift from God? The only circumstance I can think of is
when someone married has sexual desires for someone Other than their spouse......

Lust generally means sexual attraction outside of marriage. Sexual attraction inside of marriage is, of course, very much okay. Each of the Seven Deadly Sins represent a challenge, an invitation to the development of virtue.

The AIDS epidemic. That's a good example of why lust is a sin.

I thought AIDS was not that ancient as the sins described in the Bible

It's the direct result of lust. It's the direct result of careless unprotected sodomy with multiple partners.

Well slowmutant, the trouble is that peoples desires are pretty much BEYOND their control. Whats IN their control is whether or not they act on those desires and How they act upon them if they choose to do so. People often DO feel sexual attraction towards those who are off limits to them but (perhaps)most people exert self-control and dont act on them. What really cracks me up is how fundies think that whenever you feel the impulse to do something you're not supposed to, its the Devil who's generating that impulse and trying to trick you into sinning  .

Uh-uh. Acting on ones lust and desires is what leads to eventual downfall.
And the AIDS epidemic is caused by careless, unprotected SEX(including sodomy but NOT exclusively!) with multiple partners.

No, not really. God invented sex. Why would he do that if he didn't want us to have it?
Genesis 1 wrote:
27 So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.
28 And God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it [using all its vast resources in the service of God and man]; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves upon the earth.

How exactly were Adam and Eve supposed to "multiply and fill the Earth" if they couldn't have sex? Note that God told them to do this long before they were married.

Some people say that you shouldn't use birth control because its a sin, but not having sex at all is the most effective form of birth control. So by that reasoning, not having sex is a sin. Maybe I should change my ways as an asexual and stop sinning so much.

Since a great many married women have contracted AIDS because their husbands have demanded and forced sex even though the husbands were infected by philandering I fail to see how a just God would punish them for sins committed by others.

It is a Jamaican cus word. The word “bumberclart” equals the same as “You bumberclart”. Also from my observation it can be used as verb meaning” this situation sucks ass”. It can be used as a verb and noun together when both the person and the situation sucks ass.

The one mistake (assumption) that a lot of people make regarding God is that He is a "Just" God. He isn't.

The Christian belief is that everyone deserves to go to hell. The fact that Christ (who was sinless) was allowed to suffer on the cross at all is an injustice. The fact that murderers who have become Christians will go to heaven is an injustice. The fact that good people die young or little kids getting cancer is an injustice as well.

Again, the assumption that God is just will throw you way off base.
