Woo hoo. Please check the religious situation in 1780 [year chosen at random]

Catholics, Anglicans, Lutherans, Mennonites, Presbyterians, Quakers, Moravians - flavors of Christianity not all of whom considered themselves the "same" religion - and Cathlics and Protestants still differ on the Lord's Prayer.

Shakers whose status as Nicene Christians is at least questionable.

Jews.

Were there any Muslims by 1790? I do not know.

Quite a few aborigines by no means all of whom had taken on Christianity and who were definitely IN the US.

This is not counting the atheists

Are you all right Panda? Your necromancing zeal is causing a lot of concern - someone even asked if your account has been hacked

I am against the recitation of the Pledge in public schools, with or without the "under God" bit.
I don't feel that children should be required to ally themselves with a nation, particularly small children who don't even fully understand what a nation IS.
Also, some children are multi-national. Will the class display the other flags and allow those children to recite other pledges? I don't think so.
