That's like saying, "doesn't everybody like to kill people in horrible manners whilst they smile sadistically?" It might be fun for you while you're laughing at your own jokes though.

Who is smiling sadistically? Everybody who likes to kill people in horrible manners? Or the people whom everybody likes to kill in horrible manners? And, did you mean "manors" or "manners?"

Nobody is smiling sadistically nor killing people in horrible manners that I know of, however the point I was trying to make that of there being a receiver and giver in the game of rhetoric that you're playing. When you equivocate terms like "conservative" or "liberal" as used in different eras where those who might be labeled by them would not be labeled by them today it is either a sort of guilt by association tactic or a justification of ones own stances by claiming some random historical icon to be able to be labeled in their own day as you would be labeled in your day.

Don't pretend you don't do the exact same thing you are accusing panda of.

If I do, I do so unintentionally. Pandabear has been making a game of this for about a year or so.

They often say that the Liberals of yesterday are the Conservatives of today. Hence the Conservatives of today will be regarded as dinosaurs by future generations of conservatives,

Not necessarily. Conservatives of one era can still be considered conservatives of another era, but one needs to judge according to the stances that they held individually rather than according to the labels provided them contemporaneously.

So you still identify slave holders as "conservative"

Conservatives haven't changed, just society's standards have. The Republicans (and yes the Republican party formed out of a disgust of slavery) have never been for enslaving people. They have always been pro-individual, at least that's what the party stands for. By and large Conservatives today are quite similar in beliefs as the same abolishinists that formed the Republican Party just before the Civil War.

Additionally, the Democrats and the left wing progressives haven't changed either.

Here are some things I've seen casually thrown around on this board.

1. Forced Population Control

2. Government Controlling health care

3. One liberal progressive here apparently said they want to beat another member of this board with a shovel via private messages.

4. Continually trying to call for Conservative talk radio to be shut down in the wake of the shooting in Arizona, etc.

Scary thing is they weren't joking about it. The liberal/progressives are the exact same as they were pre-civil war, only they would have been the slave owners. Only reason Democrats don't have a problem with minorities voting now is because they think they can fool them into continuing to vote Democrat blindly by calling Republicans and anyone else that speaks out a racist. Well the bulk of the bigotry comes from liberals, not Conservatives.

Not clueless. Rather, paranoid. Keep in mind that even paranoids have real enemies.

There are, of course, many more than just one form of insult used by the left to calumniate the opposition. Blindly labeling people "racist" is merely one of many blanket insults in their warehouse of pejoratives.

So, how do you account for the political shift? The Solid South used to be so Liberal/Progressive in enslaving and oppressing Blacks. Now, they've become Enlightened/Conservative/Racist in voting Republican. The North used to be Enlightened/Conservative/Racist in opposing slavery, and now we're the ones who have become Liberal/Progressive, even though we don't have any slaves.

Actually, the North is quite Liberal, Politically "Correct", and even more astoundingly Racist than I have ever seen throughout the first 17 years of my life in Texas. Heck, I had never even heard of people complaining about the race of other people down in Texas, however up in Minnesota I hear such crap constantly.

Supposedly that's because the Texans are the racists, the 'new' racists actually want race not to be on the table because they don't want their come-uppings for what was done to minorities in their parent's age, and the properly concerned and rational person is the one that's vividly aware of past wrongs aggrigating to the present wrongs of poverty, high crime, and supposed institutional racism that is still strong, alive, and well today.

My attitude toward it is similar to Ace Of Spade's though - if you're going to wail, mourn, nash your teeth and throw cultural guilt on non-participant generations the very least you can do is address what these people really need for 'reparation's, ie. life skills and help in building better cultural paradigms or teaching them how to lift themselves up, give them assistance in fighting the drug epidemics, etc.. When the later issues are even too taboo for minorities themselves to express though, and when the side that's supposedly on their side tries to placate by buying votes with junkfood solutions, seemingly preferring to gain their votes actually by single-issue voters the most, and then hoping to be the party that legalizes all illegals for another 12 or 13 million votes - I hope they realize, this isn't a friend but rather a con artist with a very dark sense of humor. I don't know, maybe I am just paranoid but I'd like to think that the third great molestation of minorities - first being slavery, second being separate but equal laws, and now the third as useful idiots for social revolution - can be brought to and end, but then again... that can only be aided by telling them that they aren't victims and empowering them rather than throwing out assistance, and then all you need to do is see how the supposed 'friend' in government treats those who become self sufficient or, heaven forbid, break political rank.

Well, welcome to the North. I hope that you are enjoying our winters.

So, both the Liberals/Progressives and the Enlightened/Conservatives are "racist?"

Well, anyway, Comrade Noah Webster was the biggest Language Control Advocate of the 19th century. He was also both a "racist" and an "enlightened/conservative" for being an abolitionist. So, your theory that all Language Control Advocates are Leftists is disproven.

I think you actually come very nicely to the point. Society's standards have changed. Progressives seek to change, perhaps quicker than is wise, Conservatives seek to ret*d, perhaps slowing change below the pace that is wise.

The Conservative of today is a far cry from the conservative of the 19th century. Universal suffrage, miscengenation, civil rights, access to divorce, decriminalization of homosexuality, collective bargaining, removal of the gold standard, income tax, immigration and refugee policy are all areas where the world (and the United States in particular) are vastly different from the policies of 150 years ago.

No conservative can credibly argue that women should not have the vote--yet such was the conservative line 100 years ago. No conservative can credibly argue that people of different races should be prohibited from marrying each other--yet such was the line from some conservatives as recently as 50 years ago.

When the party of the "individual" seeks to impose the authority of the state over the individual's bodily integrity, or the freedom of individuals to form their families as they see fit, that party should question whether it truly stands for the individual.

Again with the anecdotes.

Quote:
1. Forced Population Control

2. Government Controlling health care

3. One liberal progressive here apparently said they want to beat another member of this board with a shovel via private messages.

4. Continually trying to call for Conservative talk radio to be shut down in the wake of the shooting in Arizona, etc.

I can find just as many whack-job right wing stupidity bandied about on this board. I can also reduce sensible, conservative positions to ridiculous sound bites. That proves nothing.

Well, since you have shifted the debate from racism to bigotry, let's look at the definition of that word:

The Oxford English Dictionary wrote:
bigotry, n.1. The quality or condition of a bigot; obstinate or unreasonable attachment to a belief, practice, faction, etc.; intolerance, prejudice.

Well, your attachment to conservative beliefs is certainly obstinate, and demonstrates itself to be, at times, unreasonable (and unreasoned, q.v. your paean to Bush in the Patriot Act thread). You and your ilk are demonstrably intolerant of progressives, and your general approach to topics demonstrates a prejudice in favour of conservative positions.

Were there ever a need for a textbook example of bigotry, your attitude towards progressives would be a suitable candidate.
