Oh boy does capitalism have the solution for you. How about some Gattaca style gene therapy. That'll give you the proper genes for anything (but only if you'r rich)

What do tanks run on? What do fighter jets run on? If there was clean cheap energy the military would already be using it. They would love anything that could be used to simplify their supply chain.

There's a conspiracy theory that Telsa devised a way to send industrial levels of power accross vast distances but this technology was supressed because "there was no way to meter it".

Even if it was impossible to meter you can bet that if such technology existed World War II would have been fought with batteryless electrically powered planes. But it was not. Range was a serious issue in the second world war (more so than it is today) but if there was technology that could just wirelessly beam energy to any machine than every plane would have had infinite range. They didn't use this technology because it doesn't exist.

There will always be a market for oil to some extent. Ethanol might come back into fashion again too. A lot of cars in the UK run on 10% ethanol which when you think about it, is actually a lot of ethanol per tank at about 5 litres minimum which makes for a great night out.

Is it possible to separate ethanol from gasoline? Can you literally try and salt it out like with water? Is there something that only dissolves in gasoline and not ethanol? I must know because I'm so cheap even Wetherspoons is too expensive.

There wouldn't be if the conspiracy theorists were correct in their ideas about transmitting industrial levels of electricity long distances without wires.

Oh yeah :chin: If wind and solar have been banned by the evil capitalists, then why does my state get half of it's electricity from wind and solar?

I mean, how much has energy abundance increased in the last 200 years of capitalism.

Making the amount of energy we have go up by orders of magnitude sure seems like a funny thing to do for someone who doesn't want us to have an abundance of energy.

I take it that they are yet to discover the inverse square law which is kindergarten level physics?

The company I work for which consists of multimillionaire capitalists at the top of the pecking order would love to get into wind energy. Giant metal tubes, plates and industrial electrical jobs is where the company I work for gets its money. Everyone in the work shop could comfortably make the main parts components of a large wind turbine single handedly.

Yes, oil (and gasoline) and ethanol can be separated. Oil (and gasoline) are hydrocarbon based molecules, while ethanol is an alcohol (R-OH) functional group on a hydrocarbon. Oil is non polar, while ethanol is polar due to the hydroxyl group (-OH). The hydroxyl group is similar to water, so they are soluble in each other. In chemistry, there is a rule of like likes like. What that means is that polar molecules tend to be soluble in other polar molecules and vice versa. Oil and water do not easily dissolve in each other because they have different solubilities.

In your case of oil and ethanol mixed, there is a method for extraction of the ethanol if it became soluble in the oil. One could mix water in to dissolve the alcohol, let it layer (may emulsify, so it may take a long time to separate), decant off the water layer and use an anhydrous salt like magnesium sulfate to absorb any remaining water. The oil can be purified further by other techniques.

Gasoline can be blended with alcohols if the right combination of branched hydrocarbons are mixed with a low concentration of alcohol. The mix can possibly be separated directly with distillation (controlled heating) techniques. There is a trade off in using this mix as a fuel. It has a higher octane number, but can cause corrosion inside an engine, especially if aluminum is used in the combustion chambers. Aluminum is susceptible to oxidation in those instances, especially if it sits along time in the presence of alcohol.

Well these are the same people who think they can get free energy by using electrolysis to separate hydrogen out of water, burning the the hydrogen in a cumbustion engine and then using a fraction of the energy from the engine to to generate electricity to be used to power the electrolysis.

To me one of the enduring mysteries of history is why Telsa hadn't noticed the inverse square law.

Conservation of energy bites again!

The Laws of Thermodynamics not only prohibit extracting more work from an engine than the equivalent energy put into it, but practical considerations make getting the same amount of energy as what went in virtually impossible.

Otherwise, there would be perpetual-motion machines everywhere, running everything from phone chargers to entire power grids.

Some people actually believe that such a convoluted and impossible method of energy production is practical?

This is sort of why I hate a lot of the eco protestors. Granted they're not that bad but much of what they want just isn't possible yet and occasionally pseudoscience.

If there was a great cheap and clean alternative it would have been providing most power for all developed countries by now. Most countries, even China are making leaps and bounds moving over to green energy but it takes time.

You are not the only one who hates capitalism.

Become a communist, revive the liberation of the working class.

Join us comrade, and ignore the class traitors.

Just in case you are serious:

• "True" Communists cannot exist due to human nature (e.g., envy, gluttony, greed, lust, pride, sloth, and wrath).

• "Real" Communists are actually State Socialists currently living in Feudal Empires (e.g., China, Cuba, Laos, North Korea, and Vietnam).

• "Faux" Communists (a.k.a., "Hypocrites" and "Poseurs") are those who preach Communism while enjoying all the benefits of living in Capitalist societies.

If you want to live in a "Communist" state, you could relocate to one of the aforementioned "Communist" countries while you are still young enough to survive forced labor, malnutrition, and the loss of all the civil rights you seem to currently take for granted.

Or you could learn how to make Capitalism work for you, instead of simply enjoying all the benefits it provides.

I mean the oil industry has not exactly left a lot of room for innovation for alternatives, in fact they have actively been working against it. I don't think anyone really thinks you can just immediately ban all oil but the world does need to move away from it...quicker than it has been in the last 50 or more years.

There is plenty of room for alternatives, but their technologies have yet to fully catch up to the level of oil technology.

Give it time, Ms. Leaf . . . give it time . . . there is profit to be made . . .
