The world is too crowded for that kind of thinking.
If you want a less violent environment you need a culture of trust.
If I am thinking, 'I need a gun to defend myself from the potential actions of my neighbours...' well that isn't trusting is it?
That shows that I expect my neighbour to show me little respect or even to threaten my life?
Perhaps it is deep, set into your individualistic culture to think like that? but in societies where people seldom get so desperate they feel the justification to harm another to provide for their needs, in a society where people feel they have an obligation to help rather than hinder the progress of their brethren and sistren? well....
Most of the violence that is occurring in my country and it's increase can be directly related to other cultural changes that have seen us quite consciously emulate US American culture and policy as a result of immense neo-imperialistic pressure guised as various things, from free trade to cold war security and ultimately 'US Hegemony'.
I don't think this debate is about guns, more about gun culture and the greater culture in which that subculture occurs.
I am not scared of guns, or even nuclear f***ing bombs, no I am scared by the mentalities that wield them.

Why should I trust my government when all the signs are in place to show that theyr corrupt and working against my rights? Why should I trust the government when these governments have been abusive throughout history? Power corrupts, face it.

Faith is for the stupid, faith by definition means blindly accepting something as fact without asking any questions. No, I don't have faith, because to have faith would be ignorance.

Nah. Faith means accepting something without
proof. An absolute necessity to operate in any
supposed real world.

Well her whole statement was stupid and uninformed. I mean, if you see a man in a ski mask walk into a bank carrying a beretta, are you gonna take a "leap of faith" that he won't rob the bank?

Everyone should have the right to bear weapons, except if they are criminals, dangerous, or mentally unstable.

Handguns, bolt action rifles, shotguns, and tasers should be legal in the UK, but require registration, training, and be fitted with RFID tracking chips.

Why should you trust your government? Because they are the one thing that is stopping you from anarchy, and blowing your collective heads off. Obviously you people have too many damn freedoms, and the right to bear arms is the most stupid one yet. OK, if you want to parade around with all this weaponry, like a high calibre penis envy, then go ahead. Just don't expect any sympathy from the outside world when your neighbour blows your families' heads off because your family didn't like him revving up his T-bird or playing his Garth Brooks albums on full volume. Meanwhile, we'll all be sitting back in our comfy chairs and watching all of this on our TVs and thinking 'If only they'd let the cops do the job they were paid for, then these a**holes wouldn't be carrying on like this.'
Don't you realise that the rest of the world is laughing it's f*****g heads off at you for keeping such an antiquated amendment? Because we are.

I agree with Anubis. There are so many hippy liberals out there who are just plain too stupid to understand why we've got rules, laws, and rights. Some structures exist for a reason.
Allow me to go off tpic here for a moment, but lets define some important aspects of liberalism
1. No reguard for up-holding national borders that are important for economic stability
2. No reguard for self defense
3. irresponsible as hell with money
4. Gives minorities "special" status that exempts them from following an equal standard as the majority. The majority who becomes the victim of double standards, and who are denied the possibility of being in the right even when we are in the right. It denies the majority equal consideration. Largely because liberals are so insanely afraid of offending someone that they let minorities bully their way into getting what they want merely by pulling up the race or gender card, rather it has a legitimate basis or not. This ideology is called political correctness.

Lets list the things Bush has done that suggests trying to take over America:

1. Stealing the election (dictators usually gain power illegally)
2. Blocking many investigations into 9/11 (probably because Bush was involved, remember, 9/11 was much like Hitler's reichstag incident, it did several things for a police state agenda, it restored blind faith in the system through nationalism, it provided a scapegoat in arabs, it gave us an excuse to highten security which leads to number 3).
3. Patriot Act.
4. Integration of Church in state, which is used to systematically deny the rights of gays and people of other faiths.
5. Launching an illegal war.

Also consider:
1. Both republicans and democrats support big business, Bush gave businesses the rights of people, and now individuals are loosing their rights to corporations.
2. NAFTA made legal immigration very tough for Mexicans, which lead to them migrating here illegally. This is of coarse, hurting our economy, the right thing to do WOULD be to try and help Mexico become more prosperous of a nation, but seeing as the Mexican government encourages their citizens to jump our border so they can send more money back to Mexico, we're not likely to reach that sort of agreement with them. So this only leaves one other option to secure our financial stability as a nation, war.... But, we don't have the economic means to go to war because we're already involved in an illegal one in Iraq. If we pull our troops, there is likely to be a civil war in Iraq and WE would be hit with the bill. If we don't pull our troops, we'll continue funneling more money into this war that we already can't afford. Meanwhile, millions more illegal aliens are jumping our border, further destroying our economy (not because theyr brown but because theyr illegal, for the libs out there)..... So seeing as Mexico likely won't agree to a plan that would benefit both the US and Mexico, we'd likely have to go to war with them, but we don't have the economic means to do so. They are turning America into a 3rd world nation. Remember, Bush is already a millionaire in the oil industry, most of the higher ranking politicians are already filthy rich, they have no concern for our prosperity.

1/ I am a he not a she.

2/ The USA as it is today is nothing to do with what Thomas Paine envisaged.

3/ Thoreaux was smarter than you.

4/ None of it is funny, more violence is not the solution to violence, just making failure mutual.

Peace j

This is what I'm talking about, your f*****g ignorant. I present points and facts, you can't counter, but you insist on making outrageous and unfounded statements after I've already sucked the validity of it dry. But the best you can do is insult me for it.
