Well, what purposes do church buildings serve? I usually take statements like this as based on the assumption that God needs to be worshiped. Church buildings and congregations don't exist to serve God. They exist to serve the needs of God's people to worship. Bodies of believers feel a need to congregate and worship corporately. Bear in mind MOST churches are not large groups of people. My church usually has two days to meet together every week, but we also frequently break off on Sunday night into a number of "house churches." We do a lot of book of Acts stuff, not all of which I'm a part of, but it is pretty cool how engaged many of our congregants are. And we don't even live in a country in which the church is pushed underground. At any rate, if people didn't feel a need to worship together, and moreover if God didn't intend for people to worship together, you wouldn't have a church.


Same thing here…God doesn't NEED our confessions. WE need to acknowledge our imperfection and insignificance. It's all Garden of Eden. You really think God didn't know where to find Adam and Eve or what they'd done? Adam and Eve needed to bring their sins out in the open and acknowledge what went wrong and their role in it. It also shows the reluctance of people in owning their own role in the evil they do. Adam blamed Eve for his part in sin. Who created Eve? God. Is Adam saying it's God's fault? Eve blamed the serpent for deceiving her. Who created the serpent? God. Is Eve accusing God of being the author of sin? Notice the serpent doesn't get the same opportunity to answer for himself. God already knew what the serpent would say, just as He knew what Adam and Eve would say, and I think the serpent felt he had nothing to confess. Debating it would be pointless, whereas Adam and Eve ultimately would come to terms with it and could be forgiven. The serpent had no such intentions, God already knew the serpent had no such intentions, and as such was already lost. Adam and Eve were different, which is why they got a second chance despite losing paradise.
