I think it's odd that Hebrew is a language appearing on many forums, considering most forums have an English-only policy, and the speakers of Hebrew aren't that many.

swedish wikipedia is 11th biggest. just smaller than russian, bigger than chinas.
norwegian and finnish right behind.

esperanto beats danish out of the 22th place.

hebrew beats vietnamese.

estonian beats persian.

nynorsk (a second norwegian writing form) beats thai.

latin and icelandic beat bengali.

That is incredibly barbaric. It reminds me of the story I heard a few years back about an arab man who killed his daughter because she refused to get an abortion after being raped by a family member. And there is no such thing as a "religion of peace."

These are tribal customs... it's about tribe and clan and that sort of thing. I wouldn't blame religion for that other than to say that a religion could, I mean could have declared from the start that it disagreed with such customs.

Whoever bought the kidneys had his life saved. The is a saying from the Talmud: whoever saves a human life, it is as though he saved the entire world.

This Rabbi who dealt in organs, saved the entire world for which he made a measly 160,000 - 10,000 dollars. Sounds like a good price to me.

The people who write the laws want to give governments a monopoly on dealing with human organs for transplant. There is nothing inherently evil about paying person A to donate a kidney to person B who needs it, and charging a transfer or eanabling fee for the transfer of the organ. Hell! We pay surgeons good money for pulling an organ out of one patient and placing it in another.

Perhaps not - but in this case, it seems it was done rather illegally. It's like adoption - a legitimate adoption agency charges money and pays their staff salary for working 40 hours per week, may have some form of consideration for the birth mother ... and that has society's blessing. Other less reputable adoption agencies are run like puppy mills. Arranging payments to be hidden in cereal boxes doesn't pass the smell test.

If you want a market for organs, fine. It might reverse the whole power structure .... $10K for something that sells for $160K is exploitation of the donor. The agents and middlemen should get 10 percent, not 90%.

Why is it illegal? With proper regulating and safety standards a private organ donation system should run more efficiently than a burocratic government based system staffed by brain-dead civil service types.

Why do you assume it run by the government? Most organ banks are run by hospitals or medical corporations.

evidence please?
my understanding was that 2-3% of medicaid budget went on admin compared to a 23% average in the private sector, will try and find sources...

and what about the guy who can't pay $160,000 for a kidney?
