Utter nonsense. Ten of the tribes were swallowed up in the Assyrian and Babylonian conquests. They assimilated and are essentially lost.

I was a bit confused myself as to why "well integrated" made it into his list.

But in my opinion, Jews are NOT well integrated -- most cultures completely assimilate if they live among others for centuries; Jews didn't. Now, the fact that they DIDN"T integrate is in fact a strong evidence for their autism.

Er, no not really. I would not describe the European migration settlements established around the world as examples of integration into local communities.

I do not believe that fanciful explanations are necessary to explain these issues. There is nothing mysterious about different groups in communities keeping to their own religion and marrying accordingly. On the contrary this was the norm for Europe for most of the last couple of thousand years. There is nothing unusual about conflict periodically arising over issues of religious difference and over wealth either.

First of all there is a huge diffeernce in numbers. While its true that Europeans didn't assimilate into non-European cultures, the fact that they had their own LARGE countries where they were majority made it unnecessary. Jews, on the other hand was a minority without their own country for two millenia. Most of the other groups in these circumstances would assimilate.

Secondly, I must say that exclusivity of Jews is much higher than exclusivity of others. There were always throughout history Europeans that intermarried. In fact, Russian Czar-ess Ekaterina 2 was of German descent and she got on that post because she married Russian to-be-czar (whom she later killed). Another similar case of intermarriage is a very last Czar Nicolas 2, his wife was also German.

In Judaism, up until recently, intermarriage was NOT a minority, but something strictly forbidden -- it was something that could get you shunned and excommunicated. Few, if any, other cultures went that far.

The situation changed in last two decades or so, recent statistics say that 50% of Jews intermarry. But still they are FAR behind non-Jews in assimilation process since most American non-Jews don't care about ethnicity of whom they marry (yes they care about the COLOR of the other person, but NOT ethnicity: someone with French descent won't mind marrying someone of German or British descent; yet a Jewish descent is a big exception to that rule)

No one denies they were assimilated -- if they were not, there would not be a need to remind them that they aer the 10 tribes. But the thing is that whether they remember it or not, their genetics is still the one of lost tribes.

They have higher IQs too which make them appear nerdy perhaps. Nerdy, eccentric people resemble aspies.

TSC topic

I just finished looking up this topic of TSC. I did not find any references to Jews.

It may require a little more research than a few minutes on the web. Tuberous sclerosis runs in my family so I took a particular interest in it. Several years ago I ran across some studies that indicate that a particular tribe of Jews (forgot the name) have a higher rate of members with tuberous sclerosis than the general population.

Errrr...or it might've been the Scandinavians... :?

Anyway, there were a lot of threads on WP about aspergers mostly being linked to a gene pool of some sort. I'd give you links, but it would take me a while to find them page by page...ugh.

TSC topic:

Ashkenazi Jews and Caucasions are most likely to carry the tuberous sclerosis gene.

http://www.newenglandancestors.org/rese ... stence.asp

Ashkenazi Jews may also have Germanic blood.

Quote:
Ashkenazi Jews, also known as Ashkenazic Jews or Ashkenazim (Hebrew: אַשְׁכֲּנָזִים‎, pronounced [ˌaʃkəˈnazim], singular: [ˌaʃkəˈnazi]; also יְהוּדֵי אַשְׁכֲּנָז, Yehudei Ashkenaz, "the Jews of Ashkenaz"), are the Jews descended from the medieval Jewish communities of the Rhineland in the west of Germany. Ashkenaz is the medieval Hebrew name for the region which in modern times encompasses the country of Germany and German-speaking borderland areas. Ashkenaz is also a Japhetic patriarch in the Table of Nations (Genesis 10). Thus, Ashkenazim or Ashkenazi Jews are literally "German Jews."

Many Ashkenazi Jews later migrated, largely eastward, forming communities in non German-speaking areas, including Hungary, Poland, Lithuania, Russia, Eastern Europe, and elsewhere between the 10th and 19th centuries. With them, they took and diversified Yiddish, a Germanic Jewish language that had since medieval times been the lingua franca among Ashkenazi Jews. To a much lesser extent, the Judaeo-French language Zarphatic and the Slavic-based Knaanic (Judaeo-Czech) were also spoken. The Ashkenazi Jews developed a distinct culture and liturgy; influenced, to varying degrees, by interaction with surrounding peoples of Central and Eastern Europe.

The person you were referring does identify as being AS, nara44 - you may wish to look a little further before making assumptions about such things. Violence is a curious thing - it tends to follow the rich, the poor, the different and unique, the common and unremarkable... in other words, it plays no favorites. We know the violence we experience better than any other, but that is no reason to lessen the effect that anyone else experiences. One must be careful to distinguish between personality traits, cultural affections, and developmental challenges... they may seem similar, but are much different at their roots.

When an aspie is overly successful in math or science, it might have nothing to do with wish to integrate; he might simply do it because it is one of his obsessions. The same seems to be the case with Jews. Success in math or science has nothing to do with integrating into a specific culture they happened to live in; in fact it is often the case that they are using their success to help them promote Jewish interests and not interests of their host cultures. If the Jews were to integrate in other ways, then they would have been viewed as "on the same team" rather than competitors, and their success would have been applauded.

With autistics the same thing. My mom was always against my taking too many courses or being too absorbed in math or physics. I always felt that it was a punishment for my being an aspie; if I was NT and was *just as much* advanced, my mom would have been proud of it; but BECAUSE it is an aspie trait, THATS why it became bad. Same with Jews. *IF* they integrated, everyone would love them for their success. But they didn't; and the punishment is that they are hated for it.

i wasn't trying to insult or hurt him
mine was an honest mistake and i can't see anything hurtful about it
besides
I'm sure that as a mod u r aware that we as an AS are exposed to much more violence and abuse than the average
As an AS i was always "favored" for abuse and violence and i hope that as mod in an AS forum u won't object to me being open and in need to communicate such sentiment
the thread it self dealt with the possibility of similarities between our unique personal traits as an AS and those of the Jews so it would be really stupid for me to distinguish between the cultural challenges and the developmental challenges in this particular case/

looks like u repeating the mistakes and prejudices of your mom
we integrate by expressing our talents and ourselves the best we could
NT may see it as a competition but as u wrote for us it is just love and magic
and by following our "obsessions" we contribute to the society at large
there is a big difference between integration and assimilation as integration preserve your uniqueness so u can contribute much more meaningfully to society
the problem with the prejudice toward Jews and AS is that no one cares about our talents because they mistake us to be winners because that the NT way of looking at things while all we want and can do is follow our love
this is very unjust and hurtful situation and i really wish at least some people can see it as so many of us get are life ruined because of this distorted view

I don't know about other aspies, but at least in my case it is true that doing math and physics has nothing to do with wanting to integrate. In fact I never wanted to integrate up until when I was 21, and when I did it DISRACTED me from math and physics. This again proves that I never thought of doing mathematics and physics as a way of integrating; to me these are completely two separate parts of my brain.

However, my mom is WRONG in that she viewed math and physics as HARMING socialization, as opposed to a neutral thing. Why was that? Because she lumped it with Asperger, so in order to "undo" my asperger she has to undo both good and bad traits alike, and THAT was a mistake. I think they are completely separate, so from my point of view an aspie should be able to be as far ahead as they can (just like it is taken for granted an NT would be if NT *happened* to be more advanced in something). On top of that, yes he should learn social skills and try to integrate; but this should nto require damaging his math/physics skills.

nara44 wrote:

In my case it IS very much like competition. Since I was 9 years old my life time goal was to be a FAMOUS physicist. Yes I am interested in physics, so there is an aspie part. But there is also needing of fame part. One is just as strong as the other. In fact despite my intellectual need to have some physics questions answered, I would rather they NOT be answered by others, just so that I can answer them myself and be famous.

But again, even if it has nothign to do with wanting to integrate, I don't agree with my mom that it goes AGAINST integrating, either. Why can't it just be neutral factor? YES, my mom (being a Jewish mom) would be happy if I am famous; she is overprotective of me in general and is obsessed about my well being over everything else (another irritating thing). But she thinks my Asperger will prevent me from that. She things that either "everything" is good or "everything" is bad. Due to AS, everything is bad, so I can't even live independantly (back in 2001 when I was 21 it took a lot of fight for me to perswade her to let me go to graduate school far away from home) , let alone be able to become a professor, let alone possibly ever be famous. So in order to make things good she has to "reverse" Asperger, which means reverse ALL traits of Asperger, including my superior talents in math and physics.

nara44 wrote:

European cultures preserved their uniqueness but they are still willing to associate and intermarry with each other. Jews are not.

nara44 wrote:

My mom doesn't mistake me to be a winner. She mistakes me to be a LOSER who can't possibly live happy life, become a professor let alone be famous, due to AS. So AS has to be reversed, which includes reversing my talents.

THere is, however, indirect analogy between opinions of my mom regarding me and the opinions of antisemites regarding Jews. In case of Jews, yes, they ARE seen as winners. But the logical fallacy is the same: if you have a package of A and B, and B happens to be bad, you have to reverse the entire package including item A. In case of autism A is superior talent and B is lack of social skills. In case of Judaism A is again superior talent, but B is taking advantage of others. In both cases A suffers in order to reverse B.

I don't agree with you that ppl don't like success, either in case of my mom's treatment of autism or in case of treatment of Jews. While it is true that in high school the "nerdy" kid is bullied, you don't see any adults saying negative things about scientists as a whole; but they DO say them about Jews. Likewise, my mom would have regarded it a good thing if I was just as advanced as I am, IF ONLY I weren't an aspie. So no one has problem with someone being smarter! The problem comes with lumping things in the same box, so once there is SOMETHING negative, then EVERYTHING has to be negative, including the intellect.

The right mindset would be "its great that Roman is so advanced; it is horrible that he has such a bad social skills", and then a logical conclusion "let Roman be even more advanced, lets see if I can push school to let him take even MORE classes; what can I do to help his social skills, lets find some help". See, these two are completely separate caetgories and should stay that way,. With Jews teh same thing: "how great it is they are so smart; too bad they are only concerned about well being of their own kind" You know, the credit should go where it belongs -- both for good and bad, even if the recepient of good and bad credit is the same person (or group of ppl); no lumping things in the same package.
