So it is fear of the black man afterall
Obviously. Obama is, at most, a social democrat or welfare statist.
And when the funding for research fellowships is cut so I can't get a lab position, but any minority still has buckets of money thrown at them for their own internships, this isn't reverse racism? There are a large number of opportunities open only to minorities, and not to me. This seems unfair. A minority with identical qualifications to me has a significantly better chance at admittance to top universities and would get a lot more scholarship money. The programs have gone well beyond establishing a level playing field. A black or Latino kid at my university has access to opportunities that simply are not available to me, nor is any parallel opportunity.
I disagree. I think that affirmative action just results in a negative backlash from whites who are pissed off about getting screwed over by preferential treatment being given to blacks. This will prolong racism, not end it. It certainly does not increase tolerance. Every minority that benefits from affirmative action programs will have tainted accomplishments, with people always wondering "Did he get that job just because he's black?" This hinders tolerance and perpetuates the false notion that minorities are incapable of accomplishing anything by their own ability.
I do admit that racism is still a problem in parts of the country. But I believe affirmative action only makes the problem worse by alienating whites,

Codarac, I beg to differ. I watched your clip and it simply reinforced the idea of reverse racism, which the speaker clearly exhibited. The only reason he wants to exterminate whites is because he feels that blacks have been, and always will be, oppressed by the powerful white race. It is a reactionary position to the racism he was subjected to, which is reverse racism. This type of racism is totally different than typical racism and much less common. The overwhelming majority of blacks do not share his ideas.
This is not Rwanda or Sri Lanka. This is America and we can't ignore our horrific history of slavery. Racism is not the original sin of white people but it is the original sin of Americans. Black people don't want reparitions or even apologies at this point. They simply want a respectful understanding that whites cannot possibly understand what it feels like to be be a product of slavery. Whites have to stop saying that it was long ago and that they are not responsible. No one is asking for a claim of responsibility, just perhaps respect. I can almost understand a black man being irrationally fearful and rageful towards whites, even though it is clearly a wrong position to take. This sort of attitude is reactionary. When a white man is fearful and rageful against blacks, it is generally not reactionary, but rather based solely on the color of their skin. There is a big difference even though both attitudes suck.

The problem of alienating whites is central to all attempts to give black people equality in a nation that was partial (and still is to a disturbing degree) to considering black people intellectually, morally and genetically inferior. There is no question that black people are hugely deprived in the matter of jobs and opportunity and legal impartiality and something must be done about it. Experience has demonstrated that, properly administrated, affirmative action has helped.
Can someone explain what 'reverse racism' is, anyway, considering racism has the following definition:

Even when segregation was officially made illegal many cultural habits and institutions maintained segregation policies and education possibilities and job opportunities were still denied blacks and other minorities through more subtle means. Policies were installed in many universities and businesses to attempt to overcome this problem and people from discriminated groups whose qualifications did not quite meet normal demands were given special considerations and, by in large, many of the people accepted did exceedingly well and helped overcome some of the imposed segregations. But some whites were passed over because of this and complained they were the victims of reverse racism. They probably have a case but the overall beneficial effects were, in my opinion, worthwhile.

Properly administrated by a government flunky? That's a good one! Dream on!
Those who can, do. Those who can't teach. And those who can't even teach go to work for the government.

Administered by university officials, scientific organizations, businesses, and where ever there is an obvious need for incorporating the full racial and ethnic spectrum which comprises the population.

No doubt a few businessmen are recorded in history as contributing to humanity but the rest of the stumblebums and crooks who were interested in things other than making a buck seem to have created a much more sizable list of very well respected names.
Racism is classically the MAJORITY oppressing a MINORITY.
Reverse racism is when a MINORITY is given preferential treatment as compared to members of the MAJORITY.
The civil rights era let to minority hiring where people with inferior education, training and ability were hired and promoted in the name of "ethnic diversity" in the workplace. It, by and large, produced a radical drop in workplace quality with more people who basically "worked the system" to get ahead than earn advancement via their abilities.
Once the numbers in the workplace were more representative of the national population, cases for "reverse discrimination" were brought by white males denied employment or advancement in favor of other candidates whose only offer on the table was that they were a minority. The Supreme Court ruled that such practices were also wrong and "ethnic diversity" was no longer sufficient a cause to justify denying something to the candidate who is clearly more qualified for the job.

Governments are infamous throughout recorded history for tyranny, brutality, mendacity and war. The name of our pain is government, an unfortunate, but necessary evil. Democracies are among the worst because compounded with tyranny and mendacity is hypocrisy. Government is like fire. A useful servant (at times) and a fearful master.

There are, of course, a few non-democratic governments still in the world. Why have you not sought them out in refuge?
From an analy pedantic point of view, the term "reverse racism" would be very nearly synonomous with egalitarian.
I understand the usage of the term from the social construct and don't object as vociferously as Codorac.
I also think that to infer from the technicaly incorrect usage of a word or phrase, implys an entire perspective of a poster is a bit of a strech, and painting with a VERY wide brush.

I think perhaps a simpler, and thus clearer, way of expressing ruveyn's point is as stated to me by my grandmother when I was but a wee lad: "The more you depend upon anyone else for your existance, the more control they will have over your life". This thought has cristalised my thought for some forty years.

I tried to get into Switzerland but I did not have enough money.
There is not one good government on earth, nor has there ever been. There are only bad governments and worse governments.
I am used to the U.S. and I speak the language here well, so here I will stay. I like the country. I do not like the government .
You reveal a common error by the way. You identify the country/nation/culture with the government. Not so. They are quite distinct. Government is just an ugly necessity. It is not the essence of the country.
If humans were better we would not need governments but we would still have a variety of nations, languages and cultures.

He is a Statist more than he is a Marxist-Leninist. Obama learned his politics in Chicago. That is not a hotbed of communism.
He is a high class Harvard educated political thug.
