There is an official definition for a cult. Cults generally center around one charismatic leader that requires full loyalty and proclaims to have had a direct revelation or otherwise be above the station of ordinary men.

Faith can exist with religion. Faith is about belief. Religion is about a process for professing or applying that belief.
