Bill Maher is a bit annoying on the left.

Actually, I don't think that we have any left-wing commentators.

Bill Maher and Jon Stewart are quite middle-of-the-road. Actually, Jon Stewart would say that he was a comedian rather than a news commenter.

Of course, compared to the vile lunatics mentioned above, these people (and probably most of the nation) would be far-left liberal (or, maybe the term they like to use now is "socialist").

Senator Franken would have qualified as a left-wing commentator in his prior incarnation, though I don't think he could have been considered 'vile.' There's also Amy Goodman and the good people of 'Counterspin.'

On the Right there is also Mike Huckabee

He isn't any where near as vile as the others. In fact, during the Republican convention, he seemed to have an almost liberal epiphany. He recalled racial segregation in his state when he was younger, used words like "ignorance" to describe the situation, and almost complimented the Democrats for nominating Barack Obama "without regard to his race."

There were probably a few people in the crowd who were muttering "you liberal fa***t!" to themselves.

This coming from the same man who likes to demonize the gays. I can't stand Huckabee. :x

Huckabee seems like a pretty nice guy I think even tho he'd probably be the last republican I'd vote for(Mitt Romney is another on like that)

The worst right-wing commentator probably is Mike Savage. The worst on the left is probably Keith Olbermann. He's soooooo annoying and over the top.

Dylan Ratigan is another vile left wing commentator.

If what you say is true, then the question should have been: Who is the vilest commentator.

For potty mouth and bad attitude, I nominate Mike Savage. That man has no manners.

Another honey of the right wing is David Duke

His views aren't a whole lot different from some of the other idiots mentioned above.

However, unfortunately for him, being affiliated with the Ku Klux Klan has been unfashionable for about the last 30 years or so. Moreover, when he starts railing against the Jewish ownership of American industry and media outlets, it makes it less likely that one of the media companies is going to pick him up to do a national show. His affiliations brought him considerable national attention, but, just like Tiger Woods' philandering brought him a lot of attention, also cost him some sponsorship.

Wow. David Duke actually went to Iran's Holocaust meeting.

I think that maybe only David Irving comes close to him on being overtly anti-Jewish.

Right-wing and left-wing labels aren't always all that helpful.
I don't think Bill O'Reilly and David Irving would agree on much, for example.
Also, neocons often like to call Nazis, neo-Nazis and suspected Nazi sympathizers 'left-wing'.

It's an aspect of Godwin's law - maybe Godwin's Third Law of the Internets?
Godwin's 1st law:
As the time of an argument on the internet increases, the probability of at least one side accusing the other of being like the Nazis approaches 1.
Godwin's 2nd law:
The speed with which an arguer invokes a Nazi resemblance in their opponent is often inversely proportional to the strength of their argument.
Godwin's 3rd law (proposed):
All sides of any argument believe that their opponents are more like the Nazis than they themselves are.

Neocons were Trotskyists once... that's supposed to be left wing.

Hmm, those are sometimes called "right-wing extremists" on the news here in Sweden.

Probably the clearest and cleanest statement in the whole thread, after all, vileness really knows no political alliances.

Actually, I think that political discourse has devolved to the point where unless you are foaming at the mouth with hatred of the world, then you are automatically labeled a nigger-loving Jew-hugging socialist. The term "liberal" has fallen into disuse.
