i was in the military several decades ago, so i have some limited experience with firearms. my family tree is steeped in enthusiastic firearms use. i am the exception, as i am not enthusiastic about guns. i have a weapon which is only for me to use when my personal end-time comes, if i need something quicker than death-by-hibachi. but i simply cannot see shooting another living thing. i believe killing another sentient being is a hell of a thing. i seriously doubt i could pull the trigger. call me a wuss or whatever, i am the way god made me. this said, trying to ban guns in this country is a bit like having to destroy the village in order to save it. 50,000 or so laws regulating firearms haven't made too much of a dent. the commonwealth way won't work here, not with americans. so to answer your question, i'd have to say i'm NOT a shooter but i coexist with them in my family and elsewhere. i don't bother them and they don't bother me.

My political position and stance is surly and unsociable. Which implies, at the very least, that I am opposed to collectivist political systems such as socialism, communism and fascism. I think the less government we have the better we will be or become. Living at the public teat turns the electorate into pablum puking cry babies.

Still liberal, though maybe you also have some libertarian leanings.

Such as?

I consider myself a social democrat, social progressive, state secularist, internationalist, advocate of a semi-presidential system, with some left-libertarian tendencies.

I'm OK with some level of regulation, and I'm fine with social welfare programs to some extent. I'm in favor of the state providing public goods such as roads, funding for education, infrastructure, law enforcement, aqueducts, etc. I'm probably more pro-market than the US Democratic Party, which in turn is fairly centrist.

What are your views on high heel shoes, motorcycles, baked beans, Mickey Mouse, broccoli, the tuba as a creative instrument and what will happen to marshmallows exposed to high vacuum and intense solar radiation?

  • High heel shoes - truly a talent, no idea how women deal with it.
  • Motorcycles - Go with Yamaha, seems like the R series is the smart money. Also Harley's - half the bike for twice the price.
  • Baked beans - I associate them with levitation.
  • Mickey Mouse - haven't seen him in years, any idea what he's been up to?
  • Broccoli - great steamed with a little bit of butter or soy sauce.
  • The tuba as a creative instrument - I'll have to keep expanding my collection of trip-hop, I'm sure I'll find a point of reference.
  • What will happen to marshmallows exposed to high vacuum and intense solar radiation? Like with many culinary mysteries I say ask Alton Brown, I'm sure he'd know.

i leave it to god. i try to stay away from trouble and i flee from it at a moment's notice. i am a very wary person, always watching around myself, and at any scary sight i am out of there. i am largely a prisoner of my own house. i well know my limitations. i am too goddamned slow and clumsy to be able to reach for a hidden weapon AND aim it properly AND shoot it WITHOUT breaking aim and shooting a waitress instead. i have no business using a gun in any public situation. i would hesitate, and the perp would use my hesitation against me just as surely as crap flows through a goose.

ok Ruveyn, would you tell me what you would do, presuming you are brave and not a wuss like myself?

touché. i am not at the level of functioning [financial and otherwise] where i would be living the successful, fulfilled life i see self-professed libertarians living. i was a working-class liberal union member during my working years. now i am a recluse who consistently votes democratic on everything under the sun because - well, i have no proper words for the republicans, i'll leave that to the more tartly silver-tongued on this forum, other than to say i don't like mean people and bullies, having been the brunt of their invective all these years. and voting for third parties would be just like throwing my meager vote away - i learnt my lesson voting for john anderson [what a futile choice!] instead of carter, which was just as futile but i wasn't about to give my blessing to "that man" with the pompadour [and his harpy social-climbing wife.]

  • motorcycles: Dangerous

  • Mickey Mouse: Entertainment at its best.
  • broccoli: I eat it almost daily.
  • the tuba as a creative instrument: For the life of me, I can't name one popular tuba player.
  • what will happen to marshmallows exposed to high vacuum and intense solar radiation? They'll get mushy, and it is time to clean the vacuum cleaner.

While I have no real political views, since I prefer to ignore politics and the government but this is the closest thing here to what I think.
