Hi,

I've been a long-time reader and sometimes responder to your posts, and I've got to say, what I'm looking for—nay what all WPers are looking for—in their most strident atheist is an unabashed willingness to confront the theist foe and tell them what ignorant morons they are. Bonus points if you blatantly make stuff up and commit several egregious logical fallacies! That's the kind of debate I like to see: ignorant, brash talking heads screaming nonsense in each other's faces!

Well, Neant, is this really necessary? It is obvious that the ignorant theist foe is moronic!

Btw, did you know that theism causes 99% of all murders, and 87% of sexual encounters with cats? True facts! And if theism causes all of that, then how could it be true? Bad consequences mean false! Hopefully, you and others like you know that the theist foe is supremely evil and must be burned with fire! Hopefully you will come to grips with the screaming that must be done. Practice this with me:
I AM RIGHT! I AM RIGHT! YOU WORSHIP AN IMAGINARY FRIEND! I AM RIGHT!!

I want my STRIDENT atheist to be one who attacks pro-Jesus attitudes among certain atheists.

Look, I've already said that Jesus was a lunatic. In fact, in response to that very post:

http://www.wrongplanet.net/postp2819885.html#2819885

Citing that Jesus is the theological source of hell(which he is to a great extent, him and Revelation), and crazy. I mean, if one looks at the teachings of Jesus, there are a number of things that run counter to proper epistemology, proper society, and many other issues, even natural sexual desire and righteous anger are suppressed by Christ. The very Christian teaching has lost sight of true justice.

The concept of a humanoid God seems to me utterly idiotic and is obviously the invention of a primitive culture seeking some mental construction onto which they could append explanations of all sorts of mysterious experienced phenomena. The whole shebang of sin and punishment is a direct application of human social constructs to the cosmos which is totally inappropriate. My concession on the possibility of a god as a kind of agglutination of the basic laws of the universe which reacts with matter and energy in a more or less predictable and comprehensive way to produce results that might be deemed intelligent but its intelligence exists without an independent intellect - something people of faith seem to require and which I do not.

In my opinion AG is far better informed on theology and specifically Christianity than I am. I have only a rough idea about the Bible but that is quite sufficient to appraise that it has some worthwhile moral concepts (and very nice language) thoroughly mixed up with the goddamndest mountain of vicious nonsense that cold be conceived. I concede to AG on the basis of expertise and his intense pursuit of overcoming nonsense that I have neither the patience nor the energy to activate.

Here we completely agree!

An interesting book on how God is a projection of man is "The Essence of Christianity" by Ludwig Feuerbach.

What I want from a strident atheist is calm, rational, quiet reason.

Quote:
A little understanding's what's required
Humankind leaves much to be desired
I know that very well. But let's not rant
about its vices. Let's be tolerant.
Moderation's where true wisdom lies.
Be wise, okay, but reasonably wise.
You're living in the past. Diogenes
isn't quite the type for times like these.
All your harping on that ancient theme
strikes our century as too extreme.
Compromise. Accommodate. Don't force
your principles to run too stiff a course.
It's sheer outrageous folly to pretend
you'll change things or imagine you'll amend
mankind's perversity one little jot.
You think your anger's wisdom, but it's not
Like you I see a hundred things a day
that stink to Heaven. But I don't inveigh
against them angrily, and unlike you
I've learned to be tolerant of what men do.
I take them as they come, put up with them.
Bile's no more philosophical than phlegm.

Have you *seen* how crazy the other candidates are? I think I am your only real option.
