No, rather it is only thinking fellows who are in foxholes, and that just automatically excludes suicide bombers.

Heck, even in the Bible, Divine intervention wasn't occurring constantly. When God made a promise, then He kept it, but you can't make one for Him.

The phrase, 'there are no atheists in foxholes' is basically the same as the phrase, 'humans tend to retreat into emotion and illogic in very stressful situations.' Also, 'humans tend to grasp at straws when they see no other solution available.' It is not the same as, 'even atheists recognize the truth of religion when they are stressed.'

This I agree with.
I think waltur touched on an interesting point, but unless you're a suicide bomber with a) total conviction to your cause and b) as you said faith in your god, then chances are, you'll be quite happy NOT strapping anything like that to yourself. That's just not how war works, and as discussions go, this becomes rather redundant when on a battlefield. As LKL said, it's more about the stress of the situation rather than any religious concept.
Honestly, if you had friends dying around you and bullets whizzing over your head, do think you might be inclined to start considering faith? Bear in mind everything else happening around you before you give a long theological answer.

No thinking person would get into a foxhole. The atheists are smart enough to get jobs far away from the fighting.

Seriously? Take that, theists! Apparently, you are that stupid!

If stupid means staying alive, I fully agree with you.

Ah, the difference of one small prefix. However, on the battlefield it is safer, and thus smarter in that situation, to be in a foxhole than it is to be standing up as an easy target.

That's not what I was getting at. More the sweeping generalisation that atheists never join the military in low ranks. Come on now, that's a bit of a silly thing to say, surely? You really think that atheists are all critical thinkers that lean towards pacifism? In the words of the immortal Paris Hilton 'puh-leeease'.

Intelligent people never put themselves in unnecessary danger. In the army you do what you're told whatever your personal choice may be. If you're lucky and perhaps smart you stay away from flying hot metal.

Would a thousand yards away with a scope be a good enough distance? (Edit: okay, for myself I've only gotten accurate up to 200 yards, but I've also only been to a shooting range once and with more practice I can become even more accurate.)

Foxholes are worthless in modern warfare.

And a thousand yards? Try a couple miles like the helicopters in the collateral murder video. The people couldn't even see the helicopter.

Jeffrey Dahmer was an atheist.

Who converted to born again christianity.

Paris also converted.

The head cases always eventually end up with christianity.
