I agree. There are "cooler" negative emotions which I prefer to hatred. Among them are

contempt, contumely, disdain, loathing, low regard, scorn, and schadenfreude.

To my enemy I do not say: "I hate you". I say instead: "I fart in your general direction"

Do you also say, ....

"Your mother was a hampster and your father smelt of elderberry wine! Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time." :?:

I hate hatred. I am hoping that the hate will escalate infinitely until I explode. Just don't ever set me off. :P

That being said, I STRIDENTLY say that the empty ideas of theism must be hated!! ! As well as diarrhea, because diarrhea is icky.

I have never hated anyone. Never had a reason too. No one has ever hurt me that bad. I dont know what I would do if someone really hurt me.

Someone did however hurt my gf in a very very bad way. Hurt her on an almost continual basis to the point of irreparably damaging her mentally.
But to my surprise I find myself not even hating that person. All I care about is to minimize the damage he has done to her as much a possible, knowing that she will never be totally free.

On an intellectual level I can recognize that hatred is never constructive. It blinds you to what must be done. It clouds your judgement.
But I guess hatred is something that can happen to you involuntarily if the provocation is severe enough.

I'd rather replace hatred with love any day. Martin Luther Kind was right. Love is the only way.

nowadays, the worst i could muster, would be to say, "may your descendants live in interesting times, and may you have repeatedly interesting dreams"

Admittedly interesting dreams give me larger laundry bills but I feel it's worth the price.

"Re: Is it ever GOOD to hate?"
What do you mean by good?

Do you think it's right to hate "bad" people, such as pedophiles and corrupt leaders? Or is it never right to hate anybody?

Then you move to use "right," which also provides the need for you to explain what is right or what you mean by right at least.

All pedophiles, as in a default position towards them and to be held as an absolute?

Why would you hate pedophiles?
Do you know what a pedophile is?

Do you think it's wrong to hate "bad" people?

I am having trouble understanding what you are asking. I could make some rough guesses as to what you are asking, however, this all turns into disaster very easily.

While it could work in some situations, it's still fundamentally flawed. There isn't even a need for love or hate to drive hate out.
Do you consider racial prejudice a form of hate?

It's too bad Mlk jr believed very vile things as to be some kind of Goodness and he preached equally hate latent drivel that devalued other humans whom literally fought and sometimes died for to force the civil rights movement toward realization beyond the words.
If MLK hadn't spoke against the Viet War, I would nearly vomit thinking about him every time. Also, he has a few quotes that chime well with the whole liberty concept though, glad we have them. I can almost feel a twinge of sadness thinking about how it's obvious he thought he was doing the GOOD and right thing, which he was in a very twisted sense. Behold the power of delusion!

Be it good or bad, it's inevitable. It's the result of accumulated frustration that you didn't have the means to cope with. It probably has led to some good things, somewhere somewhen.

Hate is not good if it makes you do bad things. But then again, love can make people do bad things too.

In this world hate exist in everybody even those deemed good and right, it will not define someone as it is inevitable but it is better to avoid it and have sympathy for those you hate

if you want to be loved at your worst, you must first be prepared to love another at their worst. in this case, I mean love by way of ceasing to want to return evil for evil, and being ready to forgive if asked with sincerity.

I still hate the woman who sits next to me at work. I cannot help it, the very sight of her makes my skin crawl. She's a conniving horrid malicious AND UNKIND person who walks around acting like she's hanging on a cross next to Jesus. I HATE THAT WOMAN!

Having said that, there's lots of people I just don't like, but I don't sit 3 feet from them for 35 hours every week. I have a feeling that once I am freed of her nasty presence, and having to witness what weaselly a toad she is every day, my feelings will simmer down.

Is it good that I hate her? Certainly not. I don't like feeling this way, but ugh. It's like she's sitting in my lap, I can't get rid of her!

Edit - I feel bad saying all that next to Pancho's picture. He doesn't hate anyone. I should strive to be a better person!
