Happy Easter!! ! There is actually a Russian tradition in which one person says "He is risen" (meaning Jesus of course), then the person that was greeted says "He is risen indeed!". I learned that in church this morning; it was an excellent service by the way.

Interesting trivia about Easter:

* The word "Easter" comes from "Eostre", which is the name of a Saxon Goddess (pagan). Easter is the festival honoring the Saxon Goddess Eostre.

* The eggs and the bunny symbolize fertility and new life, which was a common thing for the pagans to celebrate. How the eggs symbolize new life is obvious, and the bunny symbolizes fertility because, well, you have probably heard the expression, "they breed like rabbits".

* Easter occurs following the full moon after the equinox. It was common practise for pagans to relate their festivals to the moon and the seasons or the equinox.

Hey, it ain't my fault that a 'pagan holiday' occurs on the same day as Christ's rising. We just call Easter because the church leaders were apparentely too ass-lazy to figure out something different. I don't celebrate Easter, but 'the day the lord has risen.'

With that settled, happy belated Easter.

The date of Christ's rising was purposely changed (or assigned) to coincide with the pagan festival of Easter because it made it easier to convert or incorporate the pagans into Christianity.

And your point...? EMP I really wish you just choose to not believe in God and leave it at that. If you think it is so pointless, and childish to talk about this subject, why do you keep doing so?

Not all of Easter is pagan. Just because Jesus rose again on a Sunday doesn't mean that one can't celebrate Easter as it is.
