Being created out of someone's side is more of a middle ground, actually. It suggests a complementary relationship in which neither is superior nor inferior to the other.

The man represents the figurative spiritual head of the household. Submission in a spiritual sense is a model for the proper relationship of all mankind with his Creator. Jesus instructed men to love their wives as God loves those who belong to Him. This means that a man must love his wife to the extent he is willing and prepared to lose his life to save hers.

Mary, Esther, and Joseph (Jacob's son).

How about Joseph? Jesus' step-father?
He got a pretty raw deal and we can only assume that he died before Jesus was grown up.

Everyone makes a big deal about the "Virgin Mary" but it was Joseph who had all the work and the worry.

There's more mention of Joseph in Apocryphal literature with the most information given in the infancy gospel called "History of Joseph the Carpenter". For some reason they didn't include it in the bible.

That's just what I was going to say... she was created out of his side, because she stood along side him.

I thought the whole 'he shall rule over thee' was part of the punishment for eating the fruit - not part of the original plan. You could argue that women shouldn't try to escape this punishment, but pain in childbirth is supposed to be part of that punishment too, and I've never met a Christian woman who'd refuse an epidural...

I fin Satan quite intriguing. Why God simply doesn't wipe him out indicates Satan knows something very interesting and yet unrevealed about God. Very curious.

Which Satan? The Jewish Satan who is Adversary. He has the job of getting G-D to question his own judgments and to consider facts no previously weight. In short, the Jewish Satan sanity checks G-D's judgments. G-D needs His Satan, who performs a constructive function.

On the other hand there is the Christian Satan who is a Fallen Angel, the Angel of Light Oriel who wanted to push God off His throne and take over Heaven. But the coup failed, so Satan (that Devil!) and his buddies were banished to the Underworld and now the Christian Satan functions as an insurgent attempting to thwart God's will and to corrupt God's creations - like Mankind.

Thanks for sharing what Judaism teaches.

Over the years it became apparent to me that the Christians, at times, tended to redefine (without disclosing they were changing definitions) what was meant by the Judaism scriptures including what Judaism meant by words such as those above.

Actually, Ruyven... Martin Luther (a terrible anti-semite I'm sorry to say) had a view of satan nearer to the Jewish one. He described him as "God's devil." Which is an interesting thought... from a Christian point of view, if there had never been a Judas there would never have been the crucifixion, and thus never the resurrection. Even when people do wicked things, it works out according to God's plan.

Another favourite character in the Bible... Thomas. He is famously called the Doubter, but he's also the one who, thinking Jesus was definitely going to die, said, "let's die with Him." He was spectacularly faithful to his Friend, even before he thought there was anything to gain from it, other than death.

Oh... I also like Elijah. When he went to tell Elisha that he was going to succeed him, he uttered the immortal phrase, "what have I done to you?" He knew how tough it was going to be, and he felt terrible that he'd passed this burden on to a younger man. I kind of like his despair... sounds silly, but there it is.

What you Gentiles call the Old Testament was not written for Gentiles. It was a book by Jews for Jews. The Gentiles co-opted the Hebrew Scriptures to justify their superstition as the fulfillment of prophecy.

But it could not be. Jews have a single G-D (just one!) and Christians have Three Gods which they pretend is One, by stretching logic past the breaking point. The Trinity is not One God, it is Three which is direct contradiction to the Jewish belief. God cannot be Down Here and Up There at the same time. It violates all principles of logic. God does not have a body of Flesh but Christians believe He does.

Why be sorry about the truth. Luther became a flaming Jew hater. Martin Luther had honorary membership #1 in the Nazi Party. Richard Wagner had honorary membership #2. On his deathbed, Luther cursed the Jews and said they should be burned. He got his wish several centuries later.

The Lutheran sect was created and organized by a Jew hating anti-semitic fanatic who started out as a Roman Catholic. The Church was originally organized by Paul who changed his name from Saul and was a self hating Jew. James, the brother of Jesus, had an essentially Jewish view of his brother Jesus. James and his followers, the Ebionites were read out of Christianity. Christianity is such a charming religion. Full of loving kindness, justice and righteousness.

The interesting thing is that Jesus himself was an observant Jew, and the religion founded in his name is rather anti-semitic. Go figure.

I always wondered if Martin Luther's death was a direct result of his cursing the Jews. After all, God said to Abraham, "I will bless those that bless you, and curse those that curse you." We know that God doesn't change.

Regarding James, the brother of Jesus (and Jude, another brother come to that) I'm glad that their letters made it into the Bible. The book of James is one of my favourite books...

Actually, come to that, there's another favourite character of mine in the Bible. Jesus' brother James. Often overlooked, but he's there. His letter reminds me a lot of the book of proverbs, mixed in with the sermon on the mount. People forget how Jewish Christianity is. I think that's why so many Christians historically have hated the Jews... they're suffering from a particularly vicious strain of sibling rivalry.
