This is a disaster for the USA. Republicans know that politically, "the worse, the better". If they send the country down a cliff during the next two years, Obama will be blamed. The incentive is for disaster. Usama bin Laden must be very pleased.

This reminds me of the circumstances that caused the partition of Poland. Enemies of the USA must be salivating at these circumstances.

Actually, Schwarzenegger has worked hard to try to abolish CalWORKS, California's welfare to work programme, and this is the new Republican approach. Many of his cuts also meant forfeiting a greater amount of federal matching funds - how generous of him but California ended up deeper in a hole.

Wouldn't your opening comment be more appropriately applied to the lunatic fringe tea baggers like Sharron Angle, Joe Miller, and the guy who dresses like a Nazi for fun, just to name a few? You have to know that the Republican establishment must have breathed a sigh of relief after losing these insane idiots for at least two more years, even if it cost them gaining seats.

The House is "pretty historic", but the Repubs failure to take the Senate is quite a defeat. By the way, people who win big in the midterms either do so because there's a national security crisis (Dubya) or tend to lose later on (Carter). If Obama takes a page from Truman and pulls out his VETO pen, I think the Party of No will get a rightful taste of their own medicine.
