Romney strikes me as a sleazy opportunist. This means that he will pretend to be left, right, or center as expedience demands. However, he is also a reasonably competent administrator, and oddly enough his opportunism may manifest as "pragmatism" to end up with a halfway-decent President.

How's that again? The Tea Party cost the Republicans the Senate last November. And while they can win individual congressional races (even a fairly large number of them) they simply do not have the sort of broad appeal to be serious contenders in a Presidential election. There will be several Tea Partiers in the primary races, and they'll split votes enough that a more establishment-leaning Republican will likely win the nomination.

If the T.P. spit the vote the Democrats might win the presidency again in the next election. If they do not run Obama they could very well do the thing. After four years of Obama I got the notion that Hillary would have been the better choice.

Actually one could argue that not winning the senate is a good thing, that way the Democrats can't effectively blame the Republicans when the garbage that the Dems put in place start taking effect. Republicans can instead turn around saying we're trying to fix the problem but the Democrats in the Senate are stubborn donkeys that can't get it through their head that far-left policies don't work.
