You want it straight?

I came into WP, very positively impressed, saw PPR, said AH - a chance to discuss interesting topics with interested clearsighted people of similar mind even if dissimilar views.

I hung around - AAAAGGHH! Mayhem. Insanity. More than childish dissing and loud views ffrom the uninformed, and then Sand.

This I could have had at the University

I went away.

After I had recovered, I said [I am a VERY stubborn person]: NO. I will not leave PPR to Sand, pgd, and others who shall be nameless because not yet so bad I want to pointg fingers.

I shall return, says I to meself, says I, and I shall regularly though not mechanically inject threrad that actually address serious issues. And I shall respond to others' thread in such a way as perchance SLOWLY to turn the runaway stagecoach toward the path of gentile debate.

This I have attempted, and in the process have noted a nucleus of reasonably like minds with whom I can talk and ftrom whom, whether we argree or nay, I can get sanity.

You know who you are, if only by when and how I address you.

I have the same Mission from God as did Socrates. One of the things I do is to show up ignorance, illogic, inconsistency when and where I find it. Socrates did that, but things did not end up well for him. Fortunately I am less likely to be invited to drink the Hemlock than was Socrates.

Procrastination, escapism, a dash of stupidity, mingled with what must be a touch of OCD. To elucidate:

Procrastination - If I'm pontificating on REALLY IMPORTANT TOPICS I'm not doing what I should be doing but somehow I don't feel as guilty as if I were off playing Mario Kart. Why I should feel that way I have no idea, but for some unfortunate reason I do. Neither is going to find me a job, balance my checkbook or do the laundry.

Escapism - Holding forth on topics that are either ultimately unanswerable, more a matter of opinion than of fact, or responding to the sort of thing that gets my undies in a twist, takes me out of my otherwise desolate life and briefly gives me the illusion that I actually matter. I know it is utterly untrue, but I do it anyways.

Stupidity - I argue like I might actually change someone's opinion about something. However, I can't think of any beliefs I've changed or modified from reading anything I've ever read on this or any other message board regarding the "Life, the Universe and Everything" topics. Nor can I think of ever modifying anyone else's opinion on any topic whatsoever.

In fact, come to think of it, I can't think of anyone ever posting that they used to believe "X" but now believe "Y" based at least in part on what they've read on a message board, at least re: the aforementioned "Life, the Universe and Everything" topics. Doubtless people have, I've just never come across it. I can't imagine it is all that common, some sort of percent of a percent akin to hitting the lottery.

So I proceed with behavior I've concluded is empirically false, barring what must be the rarest of exceptions, and yet for no rational reason stubbornly cling to. Sure sounds like stupidity to me.

OCD - Sometimes I see a thread title in the recent posts list, and I just gotta, gotta read it. Or see a new post in a thread I had sworn never to go near again, but do. I just gotta. And on this site 99% of the time that thread is in PPR.

(Hmmm.....this post itself probably doesn't satisfy all four conditions, but it certainly meets two, probably three of them. Here I go again. )

I like posting here. I've learned a lot from the people of this forum, left or right, or theist or non-theist. I don't know anybody intellectual around my home really, so its kind of a huge relief to me being able to communicate with all of you people and be able to talk about more then hockey, gambling, booze or how the CAA sucks (the four basic topics of conversation in Quebec)

I'm just here to vent my anger.
