I do not vote for anti-choice and racist candidates,
though imagining what his policies on the Fed would be gives me a little thrill.

As a socialist,
I vote for whatever candidate is closest, even if they're only a hair closer than the Republicans.

I am not for replacing one nutcase with another nutcase.

I will write in Mickey Mouse over Obama or Ron Paul.

Ron's son seems to at least be rational, but Ron doesn't.

Ron Paul doesn't stand a chance because he doesn't pretend hard enough to be a Christian.

That is ridiculous. Rand and his dad support the same things.

But Ron is flat against women having abortions.

If anything, Rand is the less intellectual/rational one by far. He comes off as much more of a knee-jerk reactionary than his father.

Rand is just a flat-out neo-con in libertarian's clothing. Ron seems more genuinely libertarian other than the abortion thing and the evolution thing.

Do your research, despite what the MSM says, Rand actually appears to be much more with it than his dad, Dems are just pushing the Republicans to nominate someone that most Americans think is three fries short of a happy meal.

I was actually a Ron Paul fan back in '08, and IIRC so was Skafather. Rand is much more of the b.s. Tea Party vibe, rather than the principled libertarian that his father appears to be.

Still get mail from Ron...which is semi-impressive. The only other group that follows my numerous change of addresses so closely is Big Tobacco and I seem to have shaken them....but Ron still follows.

Rand isn't a neocon by any stretch. Ron just doesn't mince his words when talking while Rand is more willing to play the game. A lot of folks in the movement like that about him since he's been able able to appeal to a greater amount of people. Policy wise they aren't significantly different so I'm not sure why they're so accepting of Rand and not Ron. I suppose it's a lot easier for these all establishment types to give Rand a chance than it is for them to do a 180 on Ron who has been blasting them for 30+ years. If Ron isn't able to win 2012 then I will likely vote 3rd party and support Rand in 2016.

Part of me still expects Ron to upset but, at this point, it's more because I think his policies would benefit the current robber barons so greatly that he'd essentially cement their power in the country at this point. Especially with the right legislation and media behind him.

@ skafather84

Something tells me you claim to support Ron now, but then will turn around if he is the Republican nominee and vote for Obama.

Really, Ron Paul doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning in a Presidential Election.

From what I understand, skafather grew disillusioned with RP's brand of libertarianism some time ago and ceased supporting him. His most recent post was unambiguously critical of Paul.

And I certainly don't recall seeing Ska singing Obama's praises. Ever.

I can understand voting for a 3rd party or whatever but I can't understand why a supposedly principled progressive would vote Obama over Paul like I know many will and if we're lucky enough to get that choice I know we'll have folks like Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann try their best to destroy him. He'll end the wars, he'll end the corporate handouts, he'll protect our civil liberties, he's not owned by anybody. Is the letter that's behind his name that important to these people?
