Personally I don't feel too worried about climate change, anthropogenic or not
Frankly, researching the topic is win-win
If it turns out to be true, we can take precautionary steps to secure our civilization, and we also learn a lot about the climate system
If it turns out to be false, the investigation will still be worth it, as we will expand our knowledge of the system greatly, and we will not be doing nothing about what could be a real catastrophe
Denialism is basically postured ignorance. Global Warming goes against the 'common wisdom' of many on the Right. Common Wisdom, of course, is not based on fact, but what is brings one the most personal comfort
So I cannot help but feel for some of them, they want to see the world as they want it, and not as it is. Idealists, but good natured idealists, for the most part
Well I'm a right libertarian and I don't really have a stance on global warming since it's just too goddamn confusing and has too many variables. I don't even know where to start with it. I do know that An Inconvenient Truth was disingenuous as sh** since I watched it 4 times in data management back in high school and learned how the statistics were skewed. So I do think some level of skepticism is necessary since there are reasons for having an agenda for both sides.

Absolutely. There are a lot of ignorant people talking about it like its the end of the world, so the natural response is often ridicule. One thing I do think is disingenuous is the spin most American media puts on the research & findings. Really climate scientists advise caution and observation, but Fox News would have it that they are telling everybody, right now, to stop driving cars, don't eat meat, be atheist, f**k I don't know just a bunch of garbage unrelated to the actual research at all lol

Then there are the vocal 'denial scientists' who are paid by companies with direct interest; who rightfully should recuse themselves because they will operate under the assumption that oil/carbon = good/non-issue on environment.

I have seen interviews with a few of these guys and I feel they are operating with a foregone conclusion, virtually all of them, while in general, climate scientists who are not paid by these companies are working within the framework of falsifiability except for a small and often vocal minority that the news media chooses to focus it's attention on (often because they are also being paid by companies with a direct interest).

On the other side, there is also media that supports the vocal minority of foolish climate scientists instead of looking to the more reasonable, cautionary, and ultimately wiser ones. Because in both cases of media bias, the ultimate goal is to entertain and get good ratings, it seems. In some ways the 'climate debate' is actually media competition

I've said it a few times here, its really unfortunate that the NASA Glory climate observation satellite went down a few weeks ago shortly after launch..

I really hate it when people talking about 'global warming deniers'. It's a really nasty slur and one that is clearly meant to reference the Holocaust. Global warming hasn't been proven; there is a lot of scientific debate on this issue. It's more a case of those with vested interests shouting down those who disagree with the idea of global warming.

The world has been getting cooler if anything over the past 15 years so we're all talking about things that aren't really happening.

They deny climate change, what else should one call them? I have no connection with Holocaust denialism in my mind, that is just silly postured victimization

What data shows the world has been getting cooler? There really isn't much scientific debate anymore, there is just internet debate

I think of skeptics as the ones, like a few people who posted in this thread including yourself, who question it with legitimate scientific methodology. So you're right, that wouldn't be fair of me to just refer you or some others as 'deniers'. But there are some people who literally just deny it without any real precedent other than the media. Likewise there are some who just accept it for similar reasons. Perhaps we can agree that both of those groups are equally unreasonable? :)

Actually the Global Warming nuts should start from scratch if they want to prove they aren't crazy. There has already been one instance of fraud by Global Warming Alarmists, and the investigators were also the defendents so of course they wouldn't find any evidience of fraud.

Look, the whole issue of 'Climategate' is pretty well discredited. The entire controversy was foolish anyways, the hacker cherry picked phrases and basically was not trying to blow the lid off of anything, but to make the scientists look bad through his cherry picking. Only a handful of emails were focused on and most of the complaints were of comments taken out of context.
The "Global Warming Nuts" are not the ones doing the research. Like the vehement media denialists, the nuts are also just part of the media. Why is it that you refuse to see that it is really a media competition? I suspect it is because you are so loyal to Fox News & entertainment journalism..

It is not discredited because the official investigators into the fraud were among those that were the accused.

Kinda sad that entertainment journalists over at Fox News do a better job actually reporting the news than the so-called serious journalists.

And yeah the climate scientists shouldn't be lumped in as nuts, just plain dishonest.

Do you have any evidence for this? That is a bold statement to make. Legally that makes absolutely no sense.
And on the other hand, I find that you willingly use such logic against climate scientists while seeing no issue with oil companies funding some scientists to prove they aren't pollutin' incredibly ironic

No, they don't, and neither do most of Fox's competitors. However Fox supports its own brand of outstanding ignorance that inspires blind fandom

Who said I trusted their results either, just the ones being funded by oil companies weren't the ones caught getting creative with their data.

And really if people were serious about investigating, it would have been actual prosecutors not collegues of said scientists and certainly not people at the UN.

Explains why I knew about Obama's unusual associations back in November/December of 2007 and you didn't know about them until well after November 2008. Also explains why National Enquirer schooled the mainstream media over the Edwards affair.

If it were that serious, wouldn't somebody be able to/have already reopen the case by now?

You're probably right about that, I don't pay much attention to any media or television in general. I read a bit here or there but I am content to wait and speculate, rather then take the current mainstream opinion as the fact. And in any case, I am just wondering why you think I am some kind of serious Obama supporter... :)

A prosecutor in Virginia is trying to get it reopened.

Well the rest of the media tried to cover up those associations and call some of Obama's critics racist to try to shift public attention.
