That is something I've been wondering about. Why did we have stagflation in the 1970s, but nothing quite so similar now? I keep thinking that hyper-inflation should be just around the corner, but it never comes.
If you calculate the CPI the same way they did in the 70s, inflation is much higher now.

The cold war ended because the Soviets and their allies had poured too much money into military spending, while allowing their infrastructure to rot away. They lost the cold war quite simply because they outspent us.

The poll in that thread seems to indicate that most people thought PPR leaned left. There are a handful of very loud conservative voices in here and the occasional bigot does tend to drop in from time to time, but these people have never reached anything even close to a plurality.

The poll, itself, doesn't ask participants to state their own political views. Rather, it asks for their perception of what the slant is.

Today, 30 years ago, the collective unconscious of the world gathered together and took control of one psychotic individual and tried to rescue everyone from the coming horrific times that would be ushered in by the dark ones. Reagan was shot but being the heartless scum he is, the chest wound didn't hit anything important.

That's sorta crossing a line, albeit Reagan's dead so no idiot will actually act on that statement, but still.

He was an evil man or an enabler of evil men through his vast ignorance. Either way he should have died much, much earlier and I won't respect him in the least. Most morons already worship him as a hero rather than the villain that he and his administration were.

It's pretty well known in certain circles that Regan called many of the shots and wrote many of the Actor Who Played President's lines.

The economic growth rate per year under Carter was greater than that under Reagan. That's something most people don't know.

The tax rate was also significantly higher and had less holes in it.

Though, not nearly as high as it was during the growth years of the 50s and 60s. Nixon really started the downward tax trend and that's continued to this day to the point of screwing the next generation in favor of the bloated baby boomer generation (who were the direct beneficiaries of the growth years).

Also the growth of the Misery Index. The Rediscount Rate + Rate of Inflation + Rate of Unemployment.

21 percent under Jimmuh.

He had to work with LBJ, Nixon, and Ford before coming to office. It would have been a catastrophe no matter who had been in office. Same with Obama's term. Bush left things in such shambles that no one could have made it significantly better in under a decade.

Ronald - 6 letters
Wilson - 6 letters
Reagan - 6 letters

Surprised all those crazy Christian fundies worship him so much considering you can do a real easy numerological associate with "teh debbil!"
