Okay what did he mean? the last one who commented is he saying something good or bad?
And like Wicca and the gods and goddesses can i take the storeys litterly? Or do i take the storeys real? Like im not sure on that... i dont want to take them litterly but im not sure if i dont if thatd be wicca or not so im comfused thats really what i want to ask here for what i can exsplane.
So xsamx, you are having trouble understanding some aspects of Wicca? First, it would be helpful if we knew what type of Wicca you practice. If you are unsure, if you could quote some of the books or references you have used to learn about the practice, it would give us an idea of what form of Wicca you are having trouble with.
You said you are having trouble understanding some parts. Can you give a specific example, like a small passage from a book? A link online? I think there are several people here who would be able to explain specifics if they can understand what exactly you are having trouble with.
Thanks for clarifying your comprehension difficulties - it makes it easier for us to work with you when we know our words are being missed.
Well i got one friend online on skipe and i learn wicca from her but i do got a book that i got to return soon that hole book i didnt understand i only understood somethings that my friend exsplaned but she couldnt read it herself so it was hard. But it was about white magic im trying to learn white magic in wicca right now because white magic is something i need to know before i move onto what i really want to get into witch is black magic (but only useing it for sertion things)
just because i like black magic dosent mean im doing anything bad so dont worry. And i need to understand some gods and goddesses and the storeys about them i dont understand anything inless someone exsplanes it to me. im into ejepstion gods right now and im trying to find one.
is that what your asking oh and heres an exsapmple of what i dont understnad witch is what there trying to exsplane here: http://www.ancient-egypt-online.com/osiris.html i havent looked at him yet im not sure if i have. but eather way i dont get it.
Well, first let me explain that I do not practice Wicca, I am not Wiccan, I am not a witch. I have some knowledge of Wicca because it was an academic interest of mine - I study all world religions. But, I also learned about it while searching for my own personal religion - wicca and I simply were not a good match. I can give you a general opinion - for the official 'wiccan' opinion, you'll need to ask an official wiccan.
In Wicca there is a clear difference between 'white magic' and 'black magic'. It is important that you know the difference. The Wiccan creed is "In that it harm none, do as you will". Black magic is all about the intent to harm another. Many Wiccans are VERY opposed to this since it violates their creed. Be prepared for that reaction if you use the term 'black magic'.
I think you may be referring to 'black magic' in reference to your interest in Osiris. He is a powerful god in the Egyptian pantheon and one of his strong associations is as a god of the dead. In traditional belief a god of the dead would be considered 'bad' and practising magic in his name might be incorrectly considered 'black magic'. This isn't the way it works in Wicca. Gods and goddesses are not good or evil. If you are spellworking for positive purposes, you may call on any god to work that positive magic. A god of the dead is just another aspect of the cycle of life - there is no good or evil involved. Your intent is what will make your spellwork 'white' or 'black'.
I found this sight that explains a basic history of Osiris that may be easier to understand. Facts About Osiris
The Egyptian pantheon is one of my favorites. There are many great pagan sights with more information on them - just try google. If you have questions on individual gods you can post it here - I'd be glad to help however I can. What exactly are you having trouble understanding about Osiris? He is one of the gods that has many aspects that witches could call on in spellwork.
Let me know if anyof ths helps and if I can help with anything else. ![]()
Nice. So is that a reaction to all religions, or just Wicca?
Pretty much all religion but staunch athiests as well.
Wicca is a load of new age cobblers cobbled together out of 18th and 19th century romanticism. If you want to 'worship the earth' do it by deed not superstitious rituals, apply the four R's, Rethink - Reduce - Reuse - Recycle. If you want a sense of community be a good neighbour.
I personally can't see any response to the 'mysteries' of life other than agnosticism [without knowledge] as being rational in this age of science. Religions cause more harm than good both personally and socially, they allow a person to abdicate responsibility to a 'higher power' and be lazy when it comes to operating the meat they inhabit. Religious disputes cause so much pain and induce reactionary fundamentalist tides that cause so much suffering - do really need more?
Sorry if this offends but I cannot help but mock a little, would you prefer I held my tongue?
peace j

Just to clarify - magic has no colour, what is meant by 'black magic' is magic that is done to harm others or used for unethical reasons - if you use black magic then you are doing something bad, and this is against Wiccan doctrine. One line from the reed that is constantly quoted is "In that it harm none, do as you will" - this actually doesn't mean to harm none, no religious ethics are that simple, it is about cause and effect, that you can do as you want but need to be aware of the effect that it may have on others. To quote Gardner himself;
"[Witches] are inclined to the morality of the legendary Good King Pausol, "Do what you like so long as you harm no one". But they believe a certain law to be important, "You must not use magic for anything which will cause harm to anyone, and if, to prevent a greater wrong being done, you must discommode someone, you must do it only in a way which will abate the harm." Gerald Gardner, The Meaning of Witchcraft, p 127 in the 1982 and 1999 printings
As for gods bear in mind that within Wicca they recognise their own specific gods, they're known as Lord and Lady or the Horned God and Great Mother - their actual names aren't taught to someone until they're initiated. Wicca don't disbelieve in other gods, and will study other gods such as Egyptian gods, just make sure you understand that these are different to the gods Wicca follow.

Nope, speak your mind.
Wicca isn't new age - granted it could be argued as being cobbled together out of various bits and pieces from other religions and practices (Paganism, European witchcraft, Eastern philosophy, Freemasonry, Golden Dawn, Mysticism, Occultism, Judaism, and god knows what else). It's not quite about worshipping the earth, it's a bit more complex than that...but most Wicca do follow the four R's and are good neighbours
I'm not going to argue too much on your argument about religions place in society - I do think religion gets a bad rap due to fundamentalists (not all can be blamed for the actions of a few), but as a Pagan-atheist I will argue against anything but agnosticism being the only rational choice, to a point.
Not all religions allow a person to abdicate responsibility to a higher power, my religion doesn't because my religion doesn't believe in any higher power. Keeping on subject Wicca being a prime example of this too, their ethics are not dogmatic and really once initiated many of the ethical teachings are thrown aside, often Wicca will incorporate utilitarianism but at the end of the day ethics are left very much down to the individual so any responsibility is firmly on their head.

What Deacon Blues was saying that Bloodheart and I had differiing opinions on a religion that is barely 60 years years old. The world religions took centuries to combat each others beliefs. It was more of a humorous observation rather than a good/bad thing.
People who worship the gods can take them literally. I suppose on depends on what you consider real. Was the god Osiris really torn into pieces and cast into the underworld only to have is wife Nepthys collect his pieces and put him back together at which point he was resurrected as the god of the underworld? This was the beleif of the ancient Egyptians. I suppose if you asked an ancient Egyptian that question they would be VERY insulted. These mythologies were very real to those who practised these religions. In modern times some people feel the same way. But there are people who also believe in the spirit of the story - that it is a lesson but not literal. Some people consider all the gods and goddesses to be aspects of the THE God and THE Goddess - sort of like avatars of a specific trait or tradition. Others consider all gods and goddesses as seperate and individual entities.
If you are interested in learning Wicca - the official version, not just a type of paganism - I suggest the book Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft It is the basic Wicca 'bible'. Also check out Raymond Buckland himself - he is considered the founding father of the official religion called 'Wicca'. Raymond Buckland If you find that you are not so interested in the formalities of 'official' Wicca you may be more of a pagan. Many Wiccans dislike practictioners of other types of paganism using 'their' term to describe themselves. I only mention this so you do not encounter hostile reactions. They do exist.

It sounds as though we may be on the same page, I prefer to dodge labels these days but would loosely describe my 'profile' as, agnostic/utilitarian naturist/syndicalist - similar products different branding?
To each their own I guess... peace j

The 'official' version? Is that sponsored by Coca-Cola?
Buckland is NOT considered to be the founding father of Wicca. Gardner, is the founding father of Wicca.
Hell the page you link to even states that Buckland was a Gardnerian! Buckland's work is not Wicca, in fact he can be blamed for a lot of ignorance and disrespect Wicca faced by spreading the word 'Wicca' through America as synonymous for Witch. He may have lineage, but his work is not fondly regarded by Wicca in the slightest - seriously, Gardner is probably turning in his grave and every Wicca on the planet has probably just felt a shiver go down their spine at the suggestion that Buckland (warlock) is the founding father of Wicca.
OP for books on Wicca most would suggest the following;
The Witches' Bible: The Complete Witches' Handbook - Janet & Stewart Farrar.
Witchcraft Today - Gerald B. Gardner.
Witchdom of the True - Edred Thorsson
Wicca: the Old Religion in the New Milennium - Vivianne Crowley
Positive Magic - Marion Weinstein
The Heart of Wicca: Wise Words from a Crone on the Path - Ellen Cannon Reed
OP, in all fairness if anything Paganism or Neo-wicca may be more your speed, try these books;
Witch Crafting: A Spiritual Guide to Making Magic - by Phyllis W. Curott
Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner - Scott Cunningham
Pagan Paths - Peter Jennings

Thank you that example of the strong beliefs that I was talking about.
I was very clear in that I am not a Wiccan. And perhaps, a visit to this thread will better clarify my approach to this subject:

I wasn't passing my opinion off as the final word. Thank you for providing a practicioners perspective.
