And I still fail to see how any of this pertains to autism...

This seems a political issue... I'll put it in PPR. If there's a better place, let me know, but it's definitely not autism relevant.

Well I guess it does not really pertain, but sometimes people mess up no where they post topics so it matters not to me.......but I have a way it could tie in getting rid of the war on drugs and creating more rational policies could lead to wider use of marijuana for medicinal reasons...and some studies suggest cannabis can be helpful for autism and aspergers. but that is a bit of a stretch.

We would get high by breathing and spinning and selectively breeding cats and dogs to piss DMT for us!

One mother of an autist we known maintains loudly - kind of person she is - that cannabinoids have been beneficial in her offspring's case. But one anecdotal swallow does not make a summer.

It is interesting to realize that had the major ancient civilizations and the 16th century colonizing / trading nations been otherwise situated coca and cannabis could be socially universal and alcohol and nicvotine or caffeine derivatives problems for law enforcement.

You obviously haven't looked very hard then. I've found hundreds myself, and I estimate that there could be hundreds of thousands of 'aspies' self medicating with cannabis worldwide.

Did you see this, from 2002?

http://www.neurodiversity.com/cannabis.html

At one dispensary, 2% (10) of ~500 patients were using it for Autism.

How many dispensaries in California? 2100 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_ca ... ted_States)

Is that 21,000 in California? Out of an population of 2,000,000 with ASD, About 1% legally obtaining it. How many illegally?

It's massive. Either Hundreds of Thousands or Millions of people with ASD must be using cannabis worldwide, out of an supposed worldwide population of 50-100 million.

When you look at how unlikely it is that a lower functioning autistic person will be able to go out and score illegal weed, we will need to wait for Legal Safe Access before we can really see how effective it is.

If it only works for one of us, he or she should still be allowed the option if it harms no-one else and makes them a more productive member of society.

any criminalization will only lead to more troubles than the drugs they try to fight.
i have seen my share of crazy drug users, still they are only a minority of the people i know that have done drugs.
these people will find a substitute if they can, usually without regard for safety at all.

as for the new synthetic drugs, i couldnt agree more, some of them have horrible consequences
which is why legalisation is so important, when a teenager these days get the "absolute" statement that drugs are bad,
later to find that in some cases it isnt, then it will seriously damage the trust in regards to drugs.

an honest, realistic debate about drugs would yield far better results, look at the netherlands, they have far lower usage rates than many other countries when it comes to cannabis, despite it being "legal".
education can however be done no matter legislation, however when they then find some laws to be pure bs, their trust in their state and their intentions would slowly start to vanish as well.

Signed.

Prohibition does not work, simple any analysis of the complete story shows this.

Well I don't see it as anecdotal at all consideirng I have been self medicating with cannabis and see it as very benificial....The fact that it is federally illegal prevents it from being taken as seriously as it should.

Besides the fact that cannabis offers me quality of life that I cannot otherwise achieve...there are approximately 450,000 deaths per year from tobacco, and another 75,000+ from alcohol use. *In the USA*
And these are substances that are readily available!!
There is no such thing as a marijuana overdose, and there has not been a recorded death from use of marijuana. EVER. It has been shown that marijuana smoke does not cause cancer or heart disease.

I look forward to the day when we are no longer considered criminals for using an herb that God provided us.

Signed.

See italics, This is open to debate depending on studies and there have been some automotive deaths where canabis intoxication may have been the cause[NZ].

However compared to deaths as a result of criminalisation related crimes [murders for drug profits], the disolving of social fabric through a culture of dishonesty etc etc... this is an insignificant factor.

We need to find alternative forms of employment for those criminals. They will just find another form of criminal employment or use their built up network of suppliers and distributors to compete in this new, legal market for drugs.

I hope legalizing drugs isn't nationalizing it...

Well you are entitled to your opinion.......but keep in mind I have seen some horrible alcoholism related things take place in my family but that also concerns individuals and their choices to abuse rather then use in moderation. So I cannot say drugs should not exist simply because they can be a negative factor in 'some' peoples lives.

Yes, I am entitled to my opinion.

I also have had alcoholism in my family too, and I also do not believe in over drinking. I would not oppose living in a dry county if such a thing existed around here. I cannot condone something when I know it ruins lives, and drugs have destroyed the lives of at least 7 people in my immediate family. I will never agree that they are okay. An opinion, but one I hold strongly.
