Correlation does not equal causation.

I've met some rather prudish Atheists. I've also met some extremely religious prostitutes. The point made by the OP makes zero sense to me.

I think I remember reader somewhere that people who bike a lot have a diminished sex life.

Well... the problem is that explaining why those who LEAVE the faith begin to have better sex lives isn't explained by the "sex causes unbelief" idea very well. Hopefully they used proper controls. As well though, things like "sexual guilt" seems to be straight-forwardly caused by religion, and leaving religion would very straight-forwardly cause a loss of the guilt.

In any case, clear causative chains go one way and not the other, and a cause has to exist.

It could also be that there is a third thing which causes both atheism and a better sex life. Correlation != causation applies even to things that we like. Even though you are right that it makes sense that way, even though something making sense is not enough.

I read a long time ago in attempting to prove something (a porn shop?) of his client's did in fact meet a Mormon town's "Community Standard" as far as obscenity laws were to be interpreted, a lawyer subpoenaed the cable info from the company, for all the local Mormon-owned hotels, and he found that not only did they watch as much kinky stuff as anyone else, they watched maybe THREE TIMES as much as whatever the national average was.

Wait... ok... the sexiest philosophy and those having the best sex on average is a different issue. The 'sexiest' philosophy is usually a pejorative for the one that's completely wrong but goes on emotional/epic/heroic appeal where people get the chance to indulge delusions of grandeur (like blowing yourself up in a public place for 72 virgins or believing that the evils of the world can be overcome by the poor overcoming and destroying the rich).

Apparently(and probably as no surprise), atheists have better sex lives. They feel more satisfied by the sex they have. Feel less guilt about sex. Give better sex ed. Basically, atheists are more comfortable with sex. So, common sense is vindicated by study, and another sin of religion is exposed in a clearer manner. In any case, what's sexier than a person comfortable with their sexuality?
