specially compared to the nations south of us who have too many power hungry politicians and corrupt police to bother worrying about such matters as clean water.

ha and America doesn't have those?
America's corrupt politicians are better at hiding their stuff. Most of them noticed corrupt corporate megalomaniac pays better too.

Is this a joke? It is something I would expect from The Onion.

The word in the dictionary for that is overkill.

Every food on this planet has probably touched or been feces at one point or another.

The joke is that humanity has been turning horse manure into carrots for centuries and is horrified that a chemist can short circuit the process. Astronauts have been drinking their own piss converted back to drinking water for a while, now.

You have a good point point there. I guess the more or less direct conversion of sh*t into edible stuff is aesthetically displeasing. I would eat the sh*t steak if
(1) I did not know it was the immediate result of fecal material and (2) it tasted good.

Your point is well taken.

Mystery meat topic

Theoretically, you could just keep recycling your own excrement via the process developed by Ikeda.

Home cooking. :P

It only costs 20 times as much as regular meat! In vitro meat seems a lot more promising... Of course, the best thing would be to start weaning ourselves off of meat entirely. These super genius scientists could start working on pollination techniques or something, for when we've killed off all the bees.

Meat is the best source of protein. Humans are smart because our ancestors ate meat which helped their brains grow large.

We don't have to eat that much and we can trim out a lot of the fat.

I still would rather have the crap processed by plants rather than via a more manmade process with more inefficiency by default. Or at least gamma ray the crap before using it.

Speaking of which, the way we do agriculture nowaday is a timed bomb as much as soil quality go. Recycled food may be the future...

Using manure and rotating crops so as to resupply nutrients depleted from the previous type of plants and utilized ones left over or what is a time bomb? Growing the same type of plants in the same ground continuously?
