The goal of any church being to maximize tithes and offerings, many churches will choose not to be bound by Paul's positions.

Is that true in general or just within the USA? As far as I understand, money donated to the church is exactly that: a donation.

I think that many churches in Europe are supported by the government. In the USA, marketing is very important for churches.

Well, that does me.

I - incorrectly - fingered you as one of those who could and would participate in straight intelligent discussion.

Turns out you are simply flip. "Christian politicians are more foolish"

Welcome to the club. raml and bitl and the gang will be glad.

Enjoy engaging Inuyasha.

Enjoy the adulation of - gee, now.

We haven't had an authentic Christian president since Jimmy Carter. And, he wasn't foolish.

Rather, Ronald Reagan played on Christian sensibilities to win election. He was no Christian himself--never went to church, relied on astrologers. But, he sure made Christians look stupid.

Modern politicians who label themselves as conspicuous "Christians" are devils.

That won't get you there.

You could of course deduce the sense of takataka by looking at the series of posts from certain of the unignited which I have so labelled, but here is a nice link:

http://dtn.earthworksrecycling.com/2006 ... letter-21/

And another

http://www.y-knot.net/zoom.php?id=76

The Wiktionary definition is incorrect.

Given the number of the blithely unignited and the mental fruitflies, you may be seeing it a lot.

The Bible calls for all kinds of things that aren't practised.
If someone wants his wife to be a doormat, he should also follow the other ridiculous orders therein.
And video it, and post it on YouTube.....because some of it would be pretty funny to watch.

Is the correct response: "Takatakatakataka?"

I would have said "takataka tu"

Takatakatakataka does not compute in any language failiar to me - unless MarketAndChurch or RedHanrahan finds it in Tongan or Maori. But I think it unlikely.

Reduplication [partial, total, total with modification] is common. But reduplication of a reduplication would be pretty rare.

Some of the pastors at my church are women. I have no problems with it.

Paul also says it is a disgrace for men to have long hair. Should I run around my church with a hair cutting kit?

No - Paul would not want you to. Paul is trying to use examples that will resonate with a culture where the norm is male hair short female haire long. If we had an epistle aimed at a town where men wore long hair and women shaved their heads - yes, there are such - it would say the opposite.

Taking stuff like that as significant goes with pseudo [always selective] literalism, decreeing ducks count as fish not meat, and pumping up the rapture. Even Paul tells us that sort of thing does not count.

I very much doubt that the Panderer minds female pastors. He just doesn't like Christians who talk.

Wasn't he a Jew who spoke to people of different cultures than his?
