You may as well believe the angle can be trisected using only a straight edge and compass.

I identify as a centrist, but a more accurate statement would be center-left/liberal on social polices and center on economic polices.

I don't really identify with any of the above options, however I would say I'm closest to progressive.

Personally, I use a system to classify other people's political views. It's kind of like the alignment system used in D&D. On one axis, you have a spectrum ranging from ultraconservative/capitalist to Marxist/Communist. This represents the general political views of the person. The other axis measures radicalism - in other words, how far a person is willing to go to express those views. It ranges from not radical/peacekeeper to extremist/terrorist. The second axis also represents the persons faith in the system. Those who work within or for the government will rank closer to peacekeeper, while those who work against it, or believe it should be overthrown, will rank closer to extremist.

Here's the grid. Inside are names of people that fit right about where their names appear.

X Conservative --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Liberal
Anti-radical
| Mother Teresa---------------------------------Martin Luther King----------------------------------------Al Gore
| Fred Phelps (Westboro Baptist)--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Anonymous
| Abortion clinic bombers, KKK----------------------------------------------------------------Bill Ayers (former leader of Weather Underground)
Extremist

It's unfinished because I can't think of any person with moderate political views but extremist political motivation. Personally, I don't think such a person exists, because the more extremist you are, the more polarized your political views become. I'm sure if you plotted everyone in America somewhere along this graph, there would be a shape like /\ in the middle with very little plot points within it.
