^^ I think it was just a means of having options ranging from one extreme to the other.

A Muslim friend of mine said a manned Mars mission would have been more glorious than crashing into the world trade center.

Are they though? I voted that it should be remembered but I don't appreciate the AG vernacular that passes for his sense of humor.

Given that there are 9 different options including one reflecting the notion it is a conspiracy, "Pretty much" is pretty accurate.

I also don't care about your sense of humor.

What about an option, 'bomb Mecca', that would be just about as justifiable as saying burn you American pigs.... some of the more extreme members here may even have selected it.

Hmm.... that's worth considering. Obviously it couldn't just be "bomb Mecca". Too short.

How about this:

"A sign that Islam is an inherently dangerous religion, and one deserving to be purged from the earth whether by conventional force or nuclear fire".

I think it is too late to include in this poll. However, claiming that the option could have been put in place, and was not, is not unreasonable. It simply did not come to mind when I was creating poll options.

September 11th is a tragic day in 2001 which when I heard about it I did not fully comprehend, I was a stupid 16 year old who had a crush on a girl that blinded me from the outside world. Later I started actually thinking about everything that happened. It is another Pearl Harbor, that was finally avenged in the death of its instigator Osama bin Laden. 3,000 people died due to a racial and cultural hatred of the West, and America in particular. The religious animosity in the people's of the middle-east that lead to people dying on America's mainland still exists though and will probably continue until the end of time. Our response in bombing the crap out of Afghanistan for protecting the terrorist organizations may have been a bit much, but for the would be instigators who have wealth and seek to keep their own life while spending the lives of others it does serve as a detraction to know that they will be hunted down and those that support them also will be in a world of hurt. It's a toned down version of what the Roman's would have done, and they knew how to actually deal with crime by putting the fear of death in criminals.

There is no doubt that the US government had a hand in the events of 9/11.

We were warned. Warnings to key people were given out in advance.

Most telling...the means, mode, method, timing, etc. of the attack perfectly mirrored a top secret training simulation being conducted at NORAD (this was documented). This is why NORAD did not respond to the hijacked airliners until AFTER they started hitting their targets. Until they saw it on CNN, they didn't know it wasn't part of the simulation exercise.

There is really no credible chance that the "terrorists" pulled something like that off purely by chance. Either one of two things happened:

1. Someone with access to this information leaked it to the terrorists so they could exploit NORAD being distracted. In this case, there is a traitor in our midst.

2. Someone with sufficient clout to mandate a training exercise to NORAD had them run a simulation that would distract them from doing their job while the terrorists attacked. In this case, there is one or more traitors in our midst.

Amount of effort to investigate this angle? To my knowledge...NONE.

When you see how the events of 9/11 have been exploited to start two pointless wars that have funneled BILLIONS (if not TRILLIONS) into the hands of a few politically-connected people in addition to spearheading the political agenda of a small group of people, you really have to question who stood to benefit by ALLOWING 9/11 to happen rather than preventing it.

We knew Pearl Harbor was going to happen before it happened. We had cracked the Japan's encryption code. The attack was discussed in intelligence committees before the attack. We move the bulk of our fleet out of Honolulu before the attack because we knew the attack was coming.

Not one word of warning was given to those in Honolulu. The event was sold to the American people as a "surprise attack," when we knew it was coming in advance.

Pearl Harbor was the event that galvanized public support to enter WWII. WWII made many men very, very wealthy.

We (the people) never learn.

As I understand it, it wasn't their job to monitor internal flights or airspace.
Quote:
On 9/11 there were only 14 fighter jets on alert in the contiguous 48 states. No computer network or alarm automatically alerted the North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) of missing planes. "They [civilian Air Traffic Control, or ATC] had to pick up the phone and literally dial us," says Maj. Douglas Martin, public affairs officer for NORAD. Boston Center, one of 22 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regional ATC facilities, called NORAD's Northeast Air Defense Sector (NEADS) three times: at 8:37 am EST to inform NEADS that Flight 11 was hijacked; at 9:21 am to inform the agency, mistakenly, that Flight 11 was headed for Washington (the plane had hit the North Tower 35 minutes earlier); and at 9:41 am to (erroneously) identify Delta Air Lines Flight 1989 from Boston as a possible hijacking. The New York ATC called NEADS at 9:03 am to report that United Flight 175 had been hijacked—the same time the plane slammed into the South Tower. Within minutes of that first call from Boston Center, NEADS scrambled two F-15s from Otis Air Force Base in Falmouth, Mass., and three F-16s from Langley Air National Guard Base in Hampton, Va. None of the fighters got anywhere near the pirated planes.

Why couldn't ATC find the hijacked flights? When the hijackers turned off the planes' transponders, which broadcast identifying signals, ATC had to search 4500 identical radar blips crisscrossing some of the country's busiest air corridors. And NORAD's sophisticated radar? It ringed the continent, looking outward for threats, not inward. "It was like a doughnut," Martin says. "There was no coverage in the middle." Pre-9/11, flights originating in the States were not seen as threats and NORAD wasn't prepared to track them.

i didn't pay attention to what number that was. in my opinion the united states isn't evil, but the government was not innocent in the events leading up to it either. it was a tragic event that happened as a result of tragic events that we in the western world were responsible for.

(Awesomelyglorious, your wording in the poll is pushing it with this phrase: "A great event where the evil Americans were killed like the pigs they are.", because it is inviting people to insult and disparage an entire nation of people. watch your wording please.)
