Understanding the Obama Stimulus Package:

Having money going to signs saying that basically say this project was paid for by Stimulus all over the country is nothing more than a campaign ploy that has taxpayers footing the bill.


How old are you?

I'm 35 and i recall seeing those signs (indicating federal tax dollars at work) in the 1980's. Under the George H. Bush administration.

Aside from that - you should benefit from the federal taxes you paid? Perish the thought.

Your memory is pretty bad because George H.W. Bush was Vice President from January 1981 to January 1989. He was President from January 1989 to January 1993.

The President in office from January 1981 to January 1989 was Ronald Reagan.


Was 1989 not in the 1980's?

The very tail end of the 1980s you should work on your wording, the way you made it sound, you implied that Bush sr. was President through most of the 80s, furthermore under both the Reagan and Bush sr. administrations there were actually projects that were created and finished, unlike Obama's where the signs appear to have been the project.

I drive through half a billion dollars worth of stimulus every day. You can't tell me that the massive I15 core rebuild project doesn't exist. I have spent countless hours witnessing it, thankfully most of that time at speed.

if some state accepted the money and then stuck their thumbs up their asses, that's their problem. Obama can't excavate that road for you - he's just paying for it.

They've done quite a lot of road projects around here.

The democrat complains only about the condition of the roads and bridges to get money to fund public transportation and super fast trains. Both of which do not aid the private economy one bit outside of New York City.

To modernize the the aging American grid to a"Smart-Grid" would need the investment that the Obama Administration and Democrats in power spent on insuring future generations of college professors a job. 120 billion. The college professors and the academic industrial complex got the funds though the industry they peddle has piled up more debt then the credit-card debt amassed by the general public. The Democrat can not both push an idyllic future of electric propulsion and support it with policy such as CAFE and - when given the chance to borrow from our children to fund a wish-list - only give it 10% of the funding that the necessary infrastructure would need to supply ample, readily available power to electric-driving, 0-emission cars of this utopian future.

I have seen the highways around portland area and roads around my neighborhood repaved, and as a Conservative, I approve whole-heartedly. Roads provide an economic value unmatched by air or train alternatives. And air and train is subsidized per passenger mile traveled whereas roads actually provide revenue for the feds. This was a major reason I even gave Mike Huckabee a sliver of attention during his campaign run, and we need more candidates committed to both modernizing our roadways as well as expanding, as we need more roads, period! I think that is my only reservations about the infrastructure-portion of the stimulus and about potential future spending on roads: It is only about upgrading current roads to more sleek pavement, and there's not much in there for adding new additional roads to existing ones.

If your going to spend money you don't have, you better invest it in something that provides a return that will benefit us today and many generations to come. Roads and bridges(not stupid ones only for people) is true infrastructure spending.

Also a smart power grid is means a more vulnerable power grid to hackers, terrorists, etc.

We should go back to stone age, then we would be far less vulnerable to hackers and (lol) terrorists.
