Debate is a college sport. I is not something to take seriously. Just because someone has a rhetorical talent does not mean they are worth spit as a leader in a crisis.

I haven't heard it put like that before; it's a good point. While I do think that debates can demonstrate important skills (or the lack thereof), thinking of it as a sport is a good way to look at it.
