Collective logic of voting for various candidates

Throwing a giant wrench in the GOP machine by ensuring Ron Paul wins in some of the Open Primaries might help, but the Presidential level probably isn't the appropriate place for activism. Primary challenges for House/Senate Representatives might be more fruitful, as a lot of Tea Partisan activism started at very low-lying offices in the GOP and gradually reached to the top.
Please, repeat that often. People don't have to agree one iota with the Tea Party (or OWS for that matter) to learn from their success and copy their techniques. The Tea Party has been successful at steering the GOP in a specific direction, and whether you like what they've done or not it would be foolish to ignore how they accomplished what they've done.
You've been commenting on this frequently lately, Dox. And you're wrong. The Tea Party hasn't succeeded. They have not gotten their way, they have not achieved any of their major objectives. The Tea Party and OWS had in many ways the same basic grievances- our political system is broken, and the people in office are corrupt bastards who don't represent our interests. Has this gotten better since the Tea Party started? If anything, it is worse now. The Tea Party objected to government overreach and alleged infringements on individual liberty. So now look at the NDAA writing extrajudicial imprisonment into American law, and ask what the Tea Party did to prevent that. The Tea Party wanted more social conservatism. Have they gotten it? Social conservatives have always been fighting a losing battle, but their defeats have if anything accelerated in the fight over gay marriage. Have the bail-outs been stopped? OWS and the Tea Party agree that the banks should never have been bailed out, so why now is the Tea Party crowd doing everything in its power to defend the bankers? It's because they have long since been co-opted by a new brand of corrupt insiders. They are useful idiots, nothing more.
All the Tea Party has succeeded in doing is handing power to a new sort of establishment right-wing. An insane and dangerous one, perhaps, but no less corrupt and no more representative of their constituents' interests than the old establishment.
