Curious...

How conservative is conservative?

I'm not usually into politics at all so I've probably misunderstood the meaning of the word..

so right wing, but not so far right as to be fascist?

conservative... am I wrong in taking this as meaning you uphold "traditional american values"?

Which are?

slavery?
pro and against war confusion?
complete control of media?
destruction of all modern technology?

Forgive me if I'm totally off the mark, just curious as to what conservatism actually entails...

ahh right, a way of living, a way of thinking...

ok...

Please explain to me this way of thinking.

additional:

Excuse me, but I don't think its islam versus the world, though it may seem that way the religion itself is definately not behind what is going on..

I'm not anti-america, I don't believe bush is a ret*d (he plays the role well though), I am pro abortion and pro death penalty (depending on many factors)...

Does that mean I'm conservative?

I see the war coming yes, but I think change is the only way to stop the same s**t happening over and over, not repeating the same mistakes but blaming it on someone else each time.. You believe in revenge?

Oh and fear...

"they might attack us some day, so we better attack them now"

how preposterous

Ummm... have you ever read the Quran??

Obviously not all of Islam wants to go to war against the world, but a small minority does. The majority of muslims do nothing and therefore endorse Islamic fascisim by not "policing their own".

You misunderstand me. Muslims are responsible in the same way that Gemans are responsible for ebmracing Hitler. (The Germans even have a book warning about such behavior called "Faust")

All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing.

America can't possiblt defeat terrorisim alone. It requires muslims to reject radical Islam and take action against terrorists. At the bare minumum, exposing who they are and where they are.

I suppose I am a conservative to some extent. I consider myself a libertarian conservative though. My favorite author might be Milton Friedman, although, I also like a few others as well. I don't really have a favorite organization, as many organizations are sort of messed up in some form or fashion, I suppose I like to view stuff by the Heritage Institute from time to time as well as the Mises Institute which I like for its daily readings which I disagree with from time to time. I suppose that in terms of political figures I tend to like George Washington as without him our union would not have thrived, I like Hamilton a little although he was a bit too monarchist and aggressive. I also have some sympathy for the ideals of Reagan, however, I do not like the deficits that were run up under his presidency although I do understand the need for the defense spending that he did. I suppose I became a conservative when I recognized the need for a market economy in order to get differing people to act together and then the rest pretty much came from my pre-existing beliefs on the nature of society and my increasing interest in that market economy.

out of interest hyperion, would you consider yourself a fascist?

joerg haider is a big fan of hitler. are you aware he strongly supported saddam hussein, claiming that the iraqi invasion is a conspiracy between the us and zionists?

I'm surprised you guys haven't gone off on how he listed Vlad the Impaler as a 'great leader'.

Though I guess the modern equivalent would be listing Kim Jong-Il as a great leader, and most of the far left is willing to do that.

I sincerely doubt that.
Kim Jong "Mentally" Il is a delusional idiot who desperately craves being taken seriously.

I think Pol-Pot and the Khemr Rouge had the right idea, take all the educated idiots out in the feilds and show them what it's like to actually work for a living. I think they did get a little carried away getting their point across and killed a few too many eggheads.

Interesting,

seems to me both sides have very stereotypical views of each other...

So now we're justifying the iraq invasion with stopping the evil spread of terrorists?

Hmmn ok...

What happened to the WMDs?

(whoops hehehehe)

I guess I can't comment, I'm Australian, terrorists don't bother us here.

And I'm sure "most of the far left" wouldn't list kim jong il as a good leader... Though some probably would.

How does one ruin a country? Attack another without any real basis beyond fear? Or supply people with weapons and later claim they have nothing to do with it? Or drive the war machine onwards to keep the economy going?

It seems to me the mighty empire is falling.....

Don't be offended Americans, just an opinion :)
