I did as well, But I'm some what more serious about it than that.. But there are no groups near me and frankly I've found the ones online to be too passive aggressive.. despite their insistence on living by the ideals laid out in the Havamal.. I never got the idea that they were particularly interested in me once they found out I wasn't "Normal". However, I feel that the Havamal's redes are accurate.. and that there really is a place for everyone in the community regardless of handicaps, disabilities or infirmities. After all, Wayland was hamstrung, Tyr missing a hand, and Odin an Eye. They also seemed to view me with suspicion because I was single.. and as family oriented as they are that seemed to cause them some consternation..

So now I guess I'd be a solo practitioner.. But I tend to view the gods as 'ideas'.. that I should try and emulate their better features and ignore their baser ones just like any role model.

Yeah, exactly which form of Paganism are you referring to, OP?

agnostic but sympathetic to paganism here. I dabble in astrology and tarot for fun. (the scientific part of me believes it's bunk, but the artistic side of me is attracted to it. I particularly like the little asteroids in the chart.) Was once into Jungian Psychology and mythological archetypes and still love comparative mythology and folklore.

Hi, I'm an eclectic pagan. I am loosely polytheistic, in that I atribute certain characteristics to certain names recognized as deities, but they are all really just aspects of the One. To use a certain name is just refining focus. While I do emphasize the feminine aspect (Goddess) I do not neglect the masculine (God) or consider it lesser. I just happen to feel that there is more than enough energy feeding the masculine aspect. Both are necessary, and both are part of the One. I very much see the earth and nature as a physical manifestation of the God and the Goddess, but I would not say that I worship nature. I believe that knowing the science behind something does not make it any less magical. I believe that energy genererated by the human mind, focused and directed, has real power. I believe that ultimately, we control our own destiny and that fretting over what happens after we depart this life is irrelevant. That said, I do believe in reincarnation and karma. It is bunk, but there is nothing wrong with having little a fun.

Yeah, I know the psychological mechanism in "fooling yourself" that the stuff is real, You basically focus on the times when it is "right" and discount the times when it is "wrong" But still it's fun, particularly when you have to make a choice and have no other rational "tie-breaker" you go to the tarot cards or the I Ching or your astrological chart. I'm still alive, and it seems to work out for me.

Every time I see 'Pagan' in caps I tend to think Spanish/Puerto Rican surnames first, of which I have a handful of cousins who are Pagans (though going with the territory I believe they're Catholic).

Regardless I'm sure though that there are both plenty of Wiccan and Celtic polytheistic aspies as well as plenty of aspies of Latin-American origin.

I tend to see things like that as social game. Most of what people like to oooh and ahhh over generally goes that way.

I used to do tarot readings (for free) in college, and everyone swore up and down they were "accurate." But that was probably do to the psychological bias of ignoring the misses and focusing on the hits. But it had the bonus that people didn't make fun of me to my face anymore because they thought I was an actual witch.

See, that is exactly what witchcraft is all about It empowers people, especially women. If others are afraid of you, they won't mess with you. In times when women lacked any kind of legal protection, this was the only way for single women to survive in a world ruled by men.

The goal of the Abrahamic religions is to oppress and control women. That's what made Christianity and Islam so frighteningly successful. Judaic, Christian and Muslim women were oppressed and abused as walking incubators, and actually believed that this was what Yahweh / Jesus / Allah wanted them to be. Hence the enmity of these religions towards witchcraft, and later towards feminism.

It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad and wouldn't pose a very real danger for women. If they had their way, there wouldn't be any difference between Western countries and Iran. Abrahamic religion is a male weapon in the war between the sexes.

I'm an atheist, but I married a Wiccan and I've got a lot of sympathy for the oppression of minority religions in the United States. I'm usually up to discuss or debate various and sundry ideas/theologies/moral imperatives.

I've told my wife about this thread; she might drop in to say hi.

I am a monotheist (faith in the Christian God, but not in religion).
I enjoy astrology, the tarot, and most things considered supernatural and paranormal (but I'm still skeptical, and some types of divination scare me).

Curses! For a moment there I thought you might be Zoroastrian. I've been wanting to learn more about them.
