Utah dead set to triplicate unwanted pregnancies

"Well, young lady, you've gone and got yourself pregnant so just lie back while we implant these two additional clones of the embryo."

...I think you meant "triple."

The USA is already a backwater, and Harper would love for Canada to become our 51st state.

triplicate
1. To make threefold; triple

dictionary
1. A reference book containing an alphabetical list of words, with information given for each word, usually including meaning, pronunciation, and etymology.
2. Thingie you take a look at before making smartass spelling corrections to people.

However,

The Oxford English Dictionary wrote:
triplicate, v.
Pronunciation: /ˈtrɪplɪkeɪt/
Etymology: < Latin triplicāt- , participial stem of triplicāre (see triplicate adj.), < triplex, triple.
1. trans. To multiply by three; to increase threefold; to triple.
2. To make or provide in triplicate; to make the triplicate of; to repeat a second time. [emphasis added]

triplicate, adj. and n.
Pronunciation: /ˈtrɪplɪkət/
Etymology: < Latin triplicāt-us , past participle of triplicāre (rare) to triple.
A. adj.
a. Threefold, triple; forming three exactly corresponding copies; consisting of or related to three corresponding parts.
...
B. n.
1.
a. One of three things exactly alike, esp. one of three copies of a document; pl. three things exactly alike.

As a cursory glance at the most authoritative of all dictionaries will establish that the verb, "to triplicate," has the sense of making a triplicate, and the definition of the noun carries with it the sense of identical copies. Given that both words were available to you, the choice of triplicate suggests to the reader that you intended to convey a sense of the word that would not have been conveyed by the use of the more usual, "triple."

And, further,

My correction was a correction of usage, not orthography. But since you have given me the opportunity:

The Oxford English Dictionary wrote:
thingy, n.
Pronunciation: Brit. /ˈθɪŋi/ , U.S. /ˈθɪŋi/
Forms: see thing n. and -y suffix
Etymology: < thing n. -y suffix.
1. orig. and chiefly Sc. A little thing. Also more generally: a thing (usually with some suggestion of small size).

In both British and American usage, the correct spelling is, "thingy," not, "thingie."

Word fight - Similar to a food fight, except that the egg on one's face is only figurative. :D
