Is this even on topic?

i have no idea. if you think it is off topic, i'd like to hear how, because i did try to answer your question.

You mean you don't believe that people can't fly and that is your non-position?

8)

Or you're not sure of yourself?

Are you really not sure of yourself, or are you just implying that?

I am not going to call Snapcap annoying but he does seem to frustrate people in these threads.

Then why do you act like belief could be held above knowledge? I know no one could fly on their on volition as well. I don't merely believe it, I know it.

i don't see how i am holding it up higher. i am pretty certain i cannot fly, but for some ridiculous reason there are people who believe they can.

Do you hold not believing that you can fly as your non-position?

Hyperlexian lacks a belief that she can fly.

She doesnt actively believe in the nonexistence of her ability to fly.

She just lacks the belief in her abiltiy to fly.

So she has a nonbelief in her ability to fly, not a belief in her non abiltity to fly.

But if she took up the banner of the holy cause of stamping out the belief in unmechanically assisted human flight then it would become a creed. She would be actively adhering to a belief in her inability to fly.

Then it would become: a belief in her inability to fly. Because she would be actively adhereing to that belief as a belief.

She might then act on that creed to go out and convert the likes of R.Kelly who passionately sang out "I Believe I Can Fly" for the movie "Space Balls" to abandon their heretical thinking.

And that somehow presumes Hyper also does not believe that she can't fly?

Even if someone believes something, I don't think that means they actively believe it all the time. But when it comes up they will remember that they either do or don't.

So if someone asked her "Do you believe you can't fly?", her answer would be no?

Quote:
So she has a nonbelief in her ability to fly, not a belief in her non abiltity to fly.

So her not believing that she can fly is her non-position?

I don't see how that changes the belief in flight. She could say "I don't believe I can fly" and go on her holy crusade. She could say "I believe that I can't fly" and you'd never hear her mention it again.

Quote:
Then it would become: a belief in her inability to fly. Because she would be actively adhereing to that belief as a belief.

She adheres to the belief that she can't fly just as much as she would adhere to the non-belief of her ability to fly. There's no difference.

I don't really like the analogy to the belief of flight, because it can be validated whether people can fly or not.

It's silly to say, "I believe I can't fly" because you should know you can't fly. I'd like to meet the anatomist that put the doubt in someone to say they believe, like for all they know, they can't fly.

But you can believe or not believe in God. God cannot be validated either way.

The English language is limited as a tool to communicate. The best we can do when using the language is to use words that are as clear as possible. It is also important not to use words which can lead to incorrect conclusions. Someone on another thread on this forum used a Venn diagram which is completely unambiguous.
