How? Aspies tend to be mind blind and socially awkward. How can they succeed politically?

They couldn't really succeed in a democracy. But there is a chance that they could succeed in a dictatorship by working their way up the ranks. I would never run for office, but if I lived in another part of the world more hostile to dumbocracy I just might lead a military coup. 8)

Honestly, they'd just be a human leader. They'd be a really wonkish one perhaps, but that doesn't mean they'd be saner, better, or more capable of making the reforms needed to go through. It probably actually means they'd be less able to work with the necessary political structures. I believe it's probably possible though, with an aspie with the right skill set, as social skills are actually variable with the spectrum despite the tendency towards social deficit, and I can kind of see the "Machiavelli wonk" aspie as a logical possibility, or the aspie with an unusual social strength being a possibility.

Aspies can be the victim of unconscious bias as much as an NT. In particular, Aspies can fall victim to observer bias. This is just a human failing. We are all susceptible to it. Even if we want to be honest we are still capable of certain logical errors because of unconscious motivations and inclinations.

Nixon was paranoid, maybe a bit psycho.

Never thought of him as aspergian.

But he did have some aspie triats such as social awkwardness (his only friend was Bebe Rebozo).

But in some ways tricky Dick was the polar opposite of the stereotypical guileless autistic.
Richard the Lyin hearted was honesty-impaired even by nt standards- he even lied when he didnt have to save his skin- there were non crises instances when he lied just to impress.

Though he definetly had issues- on balance it seems doubtful, but not impossible, to me that he was an aspie.
And even if he had been an aspie its seems doubtful to me that he would have been diagnosed as such. He lived in the 20th Century and he lived outside of Austria.

It wasnt until around the year 2000 that any, but a few, mental health professionals in the USA had even heard of Aspergers. So claiming that "Nixon was secretely diagnosed as having Asperger's" is like claiming that Abe Lincoln played for the LA Lakers- it sounds a bit anachronistic.

I find it difficult to see how someone with AS could become a political leader. We lack the people skills needed to negotiate the heights of a political party. As to making a good leader, I don't know. Probably a few of us would and most of us wouldn't, just like NTs.

Thomas Jefferson was supposedly an Aspie.

As for Nixon, it sounds more like he was schizophrenic, rather than Aspie.
