Have you ever been heard of Canada? We've got multiculturalism working quite nicely, thank you. There are tensions and prejudices, of course, (although primarily between anglophones and francophones) but all in all things work pretty well here. I guess that is a matter of opinion. Separatism is a pretty serious sign of things not working too well in my opinion but I guess Canada has tamed that beast for the time being.

In the last election the Bloc Quebecois lost all but 4 of their seats. Or, as I like to put it, they only have three more seats than the Green Party.

Donnie's right though. I mean, it's not just "America" it's everyone, but if aliens were looking at us from up above they would be like "what the hell" Missiles, nukes? Terrorists? Roller coaster deaths? What is this crap? Why don't they just be civil? Why do they do destroy themselves? Why don't they cherish the ground they walk on? Are they in so much pain that they feel the need to stab themselves in the heart?

This planet will die one way or another. There were also a lot of species and a couple of races that went extinct long before now to.

I don't think its America that is to blame I think it is consumerism. Once the rich west managed to sustain themselves with food and energy we have gone on this mad quest for nonsense items that none of us really need. Also the idea of reconsumption (which originated in America incidently) has played the largest part in destroying the natural world. Now we go out and buy things that we already have!

People can argue that we are giving the poorer countries work to do and helping them but that makes the assumption that becoming more like the consuming west is a good thing for everyone on the planet.

I wish we could keep things more local and stop buying s**t we don't need.

Nobody is going to "kill the rich". The rich folks can hire guards or move out of reach. It is much better to be rich than to be poor.

You miss the point. What I am saying is that climate change is an incredibly complex issue that the lay person can not get a thorough understanding of. It requires years of training to be able to interpret the data and develop even halfway decent models. Your incredulity is not justified by personal understanding of the evidence (and nor is my acceptance of climate change). In such cases all that you can reasonably do is go with the current scientific consensus. Which overwhelmingly supports the idea that global warming is real and probably anthropogenic. This has been the consensus for around 25 years now. And in that time, as our understanding improves, the scenarios just keep getting worse and worse. I find it far more likely that you are wrong than that the vast majority climate scientists are wrong.
