He didnt understand math and began our 30 year infatuation with debt. That's his greatest crime. He had no answer for it and just shrugged off the concerns of his budget director, Stockman. If you decide to lower taxes, you have to lower spending.

In 1992 Perot ran on the Reagan-Bush debt. By 2000 things were looking very good. Then it all fell apart again.

Another fact: In the global context, both the conservatives and the liberals are right-wing and the difference between them isn't as black-and-white as Glenn Beck makes it.

Also, a lot of Ronald Reagan's mistakes can be blamed on the congress, but I guess it's easier to bla e the man himself.

That is very true Kurgan I agree but in America when things go wrong you blame the President which is stupid.

I know. :P

That's one of the reasons why it's a very hard job, especially given that the president earns less than many CEOs.

It is a hard job but Americans elect people based on popularity it seems. When we just need a good leader who knows what he is doing.

It's like that in most countries with free elections. :) Also, even if the president is good (think Bill Clinton), people still enjoy criticizing him, making fun of him etc.

I'll be straight. Despite how conservatives want to really be like Ronald Reagan, and they laud him, if Reagan himself ran, he'd be chewed out for raising taxes and signing pro-choice legislation as governor.

The repbulicans would love him rasing taxes....On the middel and lower class americans. They would hate him for signing pro-choice legisaltion. After all if Liberals where pro-life Conservatives would be pro-choice it is their backwards thinking on issues that annoys me.

It took a bit of audacity to rename the Washington National Airport after Ronald Reagan, after what he did to the Air Traffic Controllers union.

He couldn't just let the controllers not work, that would compromise air safety.

While I doubt that Reagan was personally quite the monster that my fellow liberals remember him as, the fact is he had unleashed on modern America the insanity of trickle down economics, the callousness of individualism to the detriment of those in need, the deification of the free market, and the promotion of evangelical theology with all its love of ignorance as a virtue has since had harmful implications for our country since. (Sorry for the extended sentence!)
Reagan today would have been regarded as soft ideologically by the modern far right reactionaries, but he had opened the door for them, and for that, I will always hold a grudge against him.

Where's the change he promissed? He and the goernment seems to be wasting a sh.tload of money on wasteful programs, with the prime example being Cash for Clunkers. 8O
